If you accept pickup orders with the Square Retail POS app on iOS or use Square Online for online orders, you can also automatically print order tickets with fulfillment. Print Single Items per Order Ticket

You can assign item categories to different printer profiles and print a single item per order ticket. This is useful if you need to send specific items to different prep stations or service counters to fulfill orders.

To get started, be sure to assign your items to specific categories. Then, you can assign categories to print at each station. To do so:

  1. From the Retail POS app, tap  and select Settings > Hardware > Printers.

  2. Select the relevant printer profile.

  3. Under Use this printer for, select either In-store order tickets or Order tickets with fulfillment, and toggle on Use this printer for in-store order tickets or Use this printer for order tickets with fulfillment, respectively.

  4. Toggle on Single item per ticket if you want to print a single item per ticket. This is useful if you need to send specific items to different prep stations or service counters to fulfill orders.

  5. Select the categories you’d like to print at this printer profile. Single-item printing will only apply to the categories you select.

  6. Tap Save.

  7. Repeat these steps for each of your printer profiles.

Print Compact Tickets

You can also remove the margin at the top of each ticket to save on space for printed order tickets. This can maximize your ticket space for large orders and save on printer paper and ink. To get started:

  1. From the Square for Retail app, tap the three horizontal lines and select Settings > Hardware > Printers.

  2. Under Use this printer for, go to Order tickets with fulfillment, and toggle on Use this printer for order tickets with fulfillment.

  3. Toggle on Compact tickets if you want to print order tickets without the margin at the top.

  4. Tap Save.

Group Items on Order Tickets

To customize your item grouping settings:

  1. On Square for Restaurants, the Square Point of Sale app, or Square for Retail, go to Settings > Hardware > Printer Settings. Scroll down to In Person Orders. On Square KDS, go to your Square Dashboard and select Devices > Kitchen Settings.

  2. Toggle on Combine identical items. Items with the same details will then be automatically combined into one line item.

If you toggle on Single item per ticket, this setting overrides grouping items and automatically prints each item, ungrouped, on its own ticket.

Note: Combine identical items is off by default for existing printer stations but will turn on by default for all new printer profiles you create. Learn more about grouping items.
