Square's Referral Program

When you invite friends to join Square, you both benefit from rewards - including credits on processing fees up to $1,000 in sales over the next 180 days (6 months) or $20 off the purchase of a Square Reader for contactless and chip from Square Shop.

Share Your Referral Link

You can share your link directly from your Square Point of Sale app or Square Dashboard.

For you to receive your referral reward, the new people you refer must be new to Square when they activate their Square account, and process a minimum credit card payment of $1 using your referral link.

For new businesses that sign up for Square with a referral link and do not choose a reward after processing their first payment, the free processing credit will automatically be applied to their account.

Note: Currently, referrals can only be made within the same country in which your business is located. Cross-border free processing is not available at this time.

Customize Your Referral Link

Create a custom referral link that’s easy to remember and on-brand with your business.

Note: Creating a custom referral link will invalidate any previous links associated with your account. Make sure to update and share the new custom link going forward.

View Your Referral Status

You can see which rewards are available in the Referrals section of your Square Point of Sale app or the Get Free Processing section of your online Dashboard. You can also track the status of your referral, nudge them to sign up by resending their invitation, and see whether they’ve taken their first payment.

Your referrals will be displayed along with their status:

• Waiting for sign up: Referee has not completed creation of their Square account. You can tap Nudge to resend the email invitation to the referee.

• Waiting for first payment: Referee has an active Square account, but has not processed their first minimum credit card payment of $1 using your referral link.

• Complete: Referee has signed up for a Square account and accepted their first payment with Square. Select the Claim button to choose a reward.

Note: If you refer more than one friend, you will not be able to combine your $20 off redemption code for the Square Contactless + Chip Reader. You will only be able to apply one discount code per order. In addition, $20 off redemption codes can only be used once.

Select Your Reward

After a business you refer creates a Square account using your referral code and processes their first payment for $1 or more, we’ll notify you to select a reward. Look out for the notification via email, in your Square Point of Sale app, or in your Square Dashboard.

Note: If a reward is not selected 30 days after a new seller activates their account using your referral code and processes their first payment of $1 or more, your credit on processing fees up to $1,000 in sales will be automatically applied to your account.

Track Your Free Processing

While your free processing offer is active, after each payment, we'll automatically credit your Square balance for the transaction fee, and the reimbursements will be grouped with your next transfer. Learn more about your transfer schedule options.

To view your reimbursements:

1. Visit the Balance tab of your online Square Dashboard.

2. Use the date-selector tool in the top left of the page to select a custom date range.

3. Select a transfer from the list to view your free processing credits included in that day’s transfer.

Processing fees are reimbursed to your account on each transfer. Once you process $1,000 of payments or 180 calendar days have passed, your standard pricing will apply.

Note: If you process a refund, Square will first look to your Square balance to cover the refund, including any associated fee reimbursements. If there are insufficient funds in your Square balance, Square will debit your linked bank account.

Earn Commission with Square Referrals

Existing Square sellers can earn up to $1,000 in cash rewards for referring new businesses to process payments with Square. To be eligible for the full cash rewards for the referrer, referees must process more than $250,000 in payments and must be onboarded by the Square Sales team. Prospective new sellers that don’t meet this requirements will be directed to self-onboard to Square and the referrer will qualify for a lower commission amount. 

Referees above the minimum processing threshold that self-onboard to Square without working with Square Sales will be eligible for custom pricing and a 30% hardware discount. Referees under the GPV threshold who self-onboard to Square are only eligible for the hardware discount.

Additional program requirements:

• Referrers and referees must be based in the United States. 

• Employees of Block Inc., the Square parent company, are not eligible to make referrals.

• Referees must be new to Square. Referees who have an existing Square account or who already contacted the Square Sales team do not qualify.

• Referrers can only make referrals by sharing their unique referral URL to referees.

To join the commissions referral program and receive your referral link:

1. Set up your SaaSquatch profile with your name and email address. Square uses this platform to track new referrals and issue commissions.

2. Once you sign up, you receive your custom referral link you can send to businesses that are new to Square. There is no limit to the number of referrals you can make or the payouts you can receive.

3. Your referees need to complete the referral form with your link. From there, the Square Sales team reaches out to the referee to see if Square is a good fit for their business. If they don't meet the program requirements, sellers will be directed to the self-onboarding signup flow.

4. If their business meets the referral program requirements and begins processing payments with Square, referrers receive their commission.

Once you refer a new business to Square, timeframes for receiving commissions vary depending on the time between the referee contacting the Square Sales team, creating a Square account, and beginning to process payments with Square. 

There is no guarantee that new referrals will be accepted to earn rewards. Commission rewards have a 90-day waiting period between the time your eligible referral is made and the time you will see the cash payout appear in your account balance.
