Fulfill and complete orders with Square for Retail

About managing orders

You can fulfil and complete orders on your Square Dashboard or in-app, directly from the Square Retail POS on iOS, Square Register, and Square Terminal.

Before you begin

Make sure your fulfilment methods are already set up on your Square Dashboard. If you haven’t yet selected your fulfilment types, Set up fulfilment types with Square for Retail.

As you get ready to take orders in-app, be sure to update to the latest version of the Square POS app and software on your device(s).

  • To view Order Manager, tap ≡ More > Orders.

  • To add Order Manager in the bottom navigation panel, tap ≡ More > Customise and tap + next to Orders.

Note: Order search, filter, and sort features are available even if your device loses internet connectivity and goes offline.

Fulfil customer orders

Sell online and fulfil your customers’ orders directly from the Orders tab of your Square Dashboard. You can also manage orders from your Square Online Overview page.

On the Retail POS app, you can search for orders by:

  • Order types: All orders, In store/Dine-In, Self-serve, Pickup, Delivery, Shipment, and Other

  • Order status: Active, Scheduled, Open, Paid, To do, and Completed

Review the options below to manage orders from your Square Dashboard and/or your Retail POS app. 

Orders on Square Dashboard

To fulfil and complete orders from your online Square Dashboard:

  1. go to Items & orders > Orders.
  2. View a list of your orders and use the drop-down menu to filter by:
    • Order Status: Active, Completed, Upcoming or All Orders.
    • Fulfilment type: Click and Collect, Delivery, Digital, Managed Delivery, Collection or Shipment.
    • Locations: choose an individual location or select All Locations.
  3. Click on an order to take action.
  4. From the Order Detail screen, click Mark In Progress to update the order status to In Progress.
  5. After completing the order, click Mark Ready. From here, instructions will vary depending on the order fulfilment type.
    • For completed collection orders, tap Mark Collected.
    • For completed delivery orders, tap Mark Delivered.
    • For completed shipping orders, tap Mark Shipped.
  6. If you’re delivering the order, add the courier and include a tracking number or click Skip Tracking > Save.
  7. Click View on Square Online to view the order details from your Square Online Overview page.

Note: to cancel an order, go to the Square Online Overview page or the Square Retail POS app.

Orders on Square Retail POS app

To fulfil and complete orders on your POS:

  1. tap ≡ More > Orders. You’ll see a list of your orders, along with the time elapsed since the orders were placed.
  2. Tap an order to bring up the Order Detail screen, and then tap Mark In Progress to update the order status to In Progress.
  3. Once you’ve completed the order, tap Mark Ready. From here, instructions will vary depending on the order fulfilment type.
    • For completed collection orders, tap Mark Collected.
    • For completed delivery orders, tap Mark Delivered.
    • For completed shipping orders, tap Mark Shipped.
  4. If you’re delivering the order, add the courier and include a tracking number or tap Skip Tracking > Save.
  5. Tap the arrow icon to view the transaction details. Since customers will be charged as soon as they complete the checkout flow in Square Online, your transaction details will reflect the time your customer placed the original order.
