Manage Smart Upsells on Square Kiosk
About Smart Upsells
Smart Upsells automatically suggests complementary items to buyers on the cart review screen during the self-serve ordering flow on Square Kiosk. Buyers can add a suggested item to their order with a single tap or dismiss the suggestion to continue ordering. No additional setup is required beyond enabling the feature — recommendations are automatically generated from your catalog data and refresh when you update your catalog.
Before you begin
Set up Square Kiosk and sign in to the Square Kiosk app on your device.
Set up your menu items and categories for Square Kiosk. Learn how to edit Square Kiosk menus, items and categories.
Enable Smart Upsells
Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Device Management > Kiosk.
Select the group settings profile assigned to your kiosk device.
Under Settings, click Manage.
Under Checkout, select Upsells and toggle the feature on.
Click Save.
Note: Items are automatically eligible for upsell suggestions based on your catalog. Currently, items that require modifiers (where default selections don't satisfy the requirement) and combo items are not suggested as upsells.
How buyers interact with Smart Upsells
When Smart Upsells is enabled, buyers see complementary item suggestions on the order review screen before they proceed to checkout. Up to 3 suggested items appear as cards that buyers can select.
To add suggestions, buyers tap one or more item cards to select them, then tap Add to add the selected items to their order. The Add button shows the number of items selected and the subtotal (for example, "Add 2 items - $8.50"). Buyers can also tap No thanks or the close button to dismiss the suggestions and continue to checkout.
