Sell items by weight
About selling items by weight
If your business needs to sell items by weight, you can create items with weight-based units and generate prices by weight in the Square Point of Sale app.
Square facilitates multiple options to sell items by weight, depending on what suits your business. You can manually input sales if you don’t often sell items by weight, connect a scale to your point of sale to automatically price items at checkout, or use a barcode label-printing scale so customers can self-serve weighing their items.
Before you begin
To sell items by weight, first make sure the items in your inventory are assigned the appropriate unit types for weight measurements. You can use the following unit types: Gram (g), Pound (lb), and Ounce (oz). Learn how to create and edit item unit types.
There are three options to sell items by weight:
Set up items priced by weight, and manually input a weight to a sale to generate a price. Learn how to create and edit items.
Use a scale with a barcode label printer that can print price-embedded barcodes, which you can scan to add to a sale. First, learn how to Set up your barcode label printing scale, and how to connect a barcode scanner to your point of sale.
