Order Your Square Gift Cards

Ready to sell gift cards with Square? Get started >

With the Square app, it’s easy to order and sell custom gift cards for your business. To use your gift cards, make sure you’re using the most recent version of the Square app on a compatible device.

To sell your gift cards with Square Point of Sale, you’ll need to start by ordering your physical cards from eCard Systems. This article is designed to help you navigate the eCard Systems website and confirmation emails, as they will be in English only. You may, however, order your gift cards in French.

To get started:

  1. Order your plastic gift cards from our partner, eCard Systems.

  2. Confirm or edit your gift card default amounts.

  3. Start selling your gift cards! During checkout, to redeem the gift card balance you can either swipe your customer’s gift card, manually enter the gift card number or scan the gift card QR code or barcode with your device’s camera or a compatible barcode scanner.

Redeeming gift card balances via QR code or a barcode scanner is only available on iOS devices at this time.

Begin a Gift Card Order

To place your order:

  1. Navigate to Payments > Gift Cards in your online Square Dashboard.

  2. Click Set Up Gift Cards > Order Physical Gift Cards.

  3. Choose which type of card you’d like to order, either a quick card or a custom card. Cards cost as low as $1.00 (USD) each. See the chart below for specific pricing.

    • Quick Card: Choose from 1 of 12 templates. You may print your business name in one colour, and cards will ship in 3 to 6 business days after you approve a proof. A minimum order of 125 cards is required.

    • Custom Card: Upload your own artwork to fully customize the design. These cards will ship in 15 business days following your approval of a proof. A minimum order of 500 cards is required.

Note: If you’re using a third-party eCommerce integration partner and you’re selling physical Square gift cards, please check with the integration partner before ordering to ensure they are redeemable. Although Square is the payment processor, the partner may not always support external gift card redemption from Square.

Square Gift Card Options

The price of your gift card order will be based on your order size, and is a one-time cost. Gift cards can be reloaded and reused multiple times.

Square’s payment processing fees will apply for gift cards purchased with credit or debit cards. There are no additional recurring fees for using Square Gift Cards.

Note: Much like cash or other tender payments, no additional fees will apply to transactions completed with a gift card issued from Square – only the payment total will be deducted from the gift card balance.

Order Quick Cards

Follow these steps to order Quick Cards:

  1. Click the option on the left, Quick Card, and click Continue

  2. Choose the background of your card and click Continue.

  3. Add the business name to display on the front of your card (50 characters maximum), as well as the font style and text colour.

  4. Add the text you would like displayed on the back of your gift card (up to three lines, 50 characters on each line). You are required to list your business name, physical address and phone number. A legal disclaimer will be printed on all gift cards. 

  5. Indicate the quantity you would like to order (minimum of 125 cards).

  6. Fill out your contact and shipping information to receive an artwork proof along with order details for review prior to production. Your proof will arrive in 1 to 2 business days.

  7. If you want to print your gift cards in French, please indicate “I would like my gift cards printed in French” in the Questions/Comments box. The legal language will also be printed in French. 

After placing your order, please refer to the timeline in the email you will receive from eCard Systems.

Confirmation and Shipping of Quick Cards

For Quick Cards, follow these steps to finalize your order:

  1. Immediately after submitting your order, you will be prompted to enter your payment details. Click on “Continue to Checkout And Payment.” 

  2. Enter all of your billing details, including your shipping address, and be sure to select Canada in the Country field, as the default is set to the United States. At the bottom of the screen, click “Continue to Shipping & Payment.” 

  3. Choose your delivery method and payment method, and click Continue

  4. Verify that your billing and shipping addresses are correct. 

  5. Enter your credit card details and click Submit Order.

  6. You will receive a confirmation email shortly thereafter. 

  7. Your proof will be ready in 1–2 business days. Click on View Proof and you will be brought to the eCard Systems website to approve your gift cards. 

  8. If your proof is acceptable, check the box in the middle of the page and click Proof OK. If changes are required, either enter them in English and click Submit Changes or contact Square support for assistance

  9. After approving your proof, you will receive a receipt via email. 

  10. Lastly, you will receive an email from FedEx indicating your package is scheduled to be sent from eCard Systems. 

Order Custom Cards

If ordering a Custom Card, please follow these steps: 

  1. Click Custom Card and click Continue

  2. Choose the file from your computer and upload it using the space provided. You can provide the artwork through the following files or methods: 

    • Adobe InDesign 

    • Photoshop

    • Illustrator

    • Print-quality PDF

    • TIFF, EPS, JPEG files

    • Artwork may also be emailed to artwork@ecardsystems.com after completing the submission process.

  3. Enter the text you would like displayed on the back of your gift card (up to three lines, 50 characters on each line). You are required to list your business name, physical address and phone number. A legal disclaimer will also be printed on all gift cards.  

  4. If you want to print your gift cards in French, please indicate “I would like my gift cards printed in French” in the Questions/Comments box. The legal language will also be printed in French. 

  5. Indicate the quantity you would like to order (minimum of 500 cards).

  6. Choose the laminate for your cards (glossy or matte).

  7. Select standard production time (12–14 business days) or rush order (8–9 business days). Rush orders are subject to a 15% surcharge.

  8. Fill out your contact and shipping information to receive an artwork proof along with complete order details for review prior to production. Your proof will be delivered in 2–3 business days. 

After placing your order, please refer to the timeline in the email you will receive from eCard Systems.

Confirmation and Shipping of Custom Cards

For Custom Cards, follow these steps to finalize your order:

  1. You will receive an email from eCard Systems confirming your order. If you did not upload your artwork during the order process, email it to artwork@ecardsystems.com.

  2. Once you receive your proof from eCard Systems, click View Proof in the middle of the email.

  3. You will be brought to the eCard Systems web page to view the artwork. Review the content carefully, as it is often simple things such as phone numbers or web addresses that are overlooked. If your proof is acceptable, check the box in the middle of the page and click Proof OK. If changes are required, either enter them in English and click Submit Changes or contact Square support for assistance.

  4. If you make changes in the dialogue box, you will receive a new proof within one business day as well as a confirmation page and email indicating your change request was received.

  5. After approving your proof, you will be brought to the shopping cart to enter your billing information and verify your order.

  6. Enter all of your billing details, including your shipping address, and be sure to select Canada in the Country field, as the default is set to the United States. At the bottom of the screen, click “Continue to Shipping & Payment.”

  7. Choose your delivery method (FedEx Ground, 2nd Day, or Standard Overnight shipping). Select your payment method and click Continue.

  8. Verify that your billing and shipping addresses are correct. Enter your credit card details and click Submit Order.

  9. You will receive a receipt via email shortly after.

  10. Lastly, you will receive an email from FedEx indicating your package is scheduled to be sent from eCard Systems.
