International Availability
Square Point of Sale is available for free in most countries listed in the Apple App Store and Google Play. Find answers to commonly asked questions about international availability.
Where Can I Accept Card Payments with Square?
Card payment acceptance with the Square app is currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, France and Spain. We currently don’t support payment card processing outside of these countries or in U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Northern Mariana Islands. We’re working to bring payments processing to more markets and will share updates on squareup.com/news.
Where Can I Use My Square Hardware?
Square’s hardware is subject to testing and certification for compliance with country-specific regulations and is only approved for use in the country for which it is intended. For example, hardware sold or intended for sale in Australia is not approved for use in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Republic of Ireland or France.
If you’ve purchased hardware for the wrong country, you can simply return your hardware and place a new order for the correct hardware.
Can I Process Payments While Travelling Abroad?
Cross-border card payments are unsupported. This means that card transactions attempted outside of the country where you activated your Square account can’t be processed with Square. However, you can still use Square to record cash transactions while travelling internationally.
Note: If you’re in the country where you activated your Square account, you can process international cards.
You can create multiple Square accounts, each with its own country selection, but a different email address and different identity verification information are required for each account.
