View offline payments
About offline payments
If your internet connection becomes interrupted, is temporarily unavailable, or if Square has a service disruption, you can allow offline payments. While offline, you can accept cash and card payments and then upload them once you have an internet connection again.
Offline payments will appear as pending from your in-app payment history while your device is offline. Once you reconnect your device to the internet or when Square’s servers are back online, payments will show as completed or declined.
Before you begin
Pending offline payments can only be viewed from the Square POS apps.
Completed payments can be viewed from both your Square Dashboard and the Square POS apps.
Declined offline payments can be viewed from both your Square Dashboard and the Square POS apps.
You’re responsible for any expired, declined, or disputed payments accepted while taking offline payments. Square is unable to provide customer contact information or contact customers on your behalf for declined or expired offline payments.
Before you can view completed or declined offline payments, you need to reconnect your device to the internet and upload the offline payments. Learn how to process offline payments.
View pending offline payments
From the Square POS app in full service, quick service, bar, retail, bookings, or standard mode, or from the Square Restaurants POS app, Square Retail POS app, or Square Appointments POS app:
Open your app and tap Transactions or ≡ More > Transactions.
Use the search bar to search by transaction details.
You’ll see a circle icon with arrows next to the pending offline payment.
Tap a transaction to view more information.
You’ll see a notification showing that the payment is pending.
You can restart or power off your device or Square hardware, but you need to power it back on to upload any pending offline payments before they expire. Remember to upload offline payments within 72 hours of taking your first payment.
View completed offline payments
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Orders & payments (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Transactions.
- Use the date selector filter box to refine a date range.
- Select the location where you processed offline payments, if applicable.
- Change the status filter box to Complete. If the transaction shows, then it was completed.
- Select a payment to view the Offline payment note on the receipt details.

You can also view completed offline payments from your orders on Square Dashboard.
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Orders & payments (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Orders.
- Click All orders.
- Click Completed and use the date filter box to select a date range.
- Select a payment to view more details.
- You’ll see a notification on offline payments.

From the Square POS app in full service, quick service, bar, retail, bookings, or standard mode, or from the Square Restaurants POS app, Square Retail POS app, or Square Appointments POS app:
- Open your app and tap Transactions or ≡ More > Transactions.
- Use the search bar to search by transaction details.
- If the transaction shows, then it was completed.
- Select a payment to view more details.
- You’ll see a notification on offline payments.

You can also view completed offline payments from your orders in the Square POS apps.
From the Square POS app in full service, quick service, bar, retail, bookings, or standard mode, or from the Square Restaurants POS app, Square Retail POS app, or Square Appointments POS app:
- Open your app and tap Orders or ≡ More > Orders > All orders.
- Select a payment to view more details.
- You’ll see a notification on offline payments.

View declined offline payments
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Orders & payments (or Payments & invoices or Payments) > Orders.
- Click All orders.
- Click Completed and use the date filter box to select a date range.
- Select a payment to view more details.
- You’ll see a red notification on offline payments.

You can also view declined offline payments from your reports on Square Dashboard.
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Reports > Payments > Discounts.
- Use the date filter box to select a date range.
- Under the Name column, you’ll see Offline Declined Payment.

From the Square POS app in full service, quick service, bar, retail, bookings, or standard mode, or from the Square Restaurants POS app, Square Retail POS app, or Square Appointments POS app:
- Open your app and tap Orders or ≡ More > Orders > All orders.
- Select a payment to view more details.
- You’ll see a red notification on declined payments.
