  • What are Balance Folders?

    Balance Folders help sellers automate budgeting for upcoming expenses. Sellers can create custom folders dedicated to an expense or financial goal. They can create a folder for tax, rent, payroll or even a rainy day and automatically allocate a percentage of every sale to be set aside in that folder.

  • How do I create a custom folder?

    You can create custom folders in your Square Balance. Name your folder(s) whatever you’d like or choose one that we’ve already created. Create as many folders as you’d like.

  • How do I set up automated contributions?

    Choose the percentage from every sale to set aside into folders for a single location or multiple locations. You can adjust your contribution at any time.

  • How do I manage my folders?

    You can rename, delete or stop automatic contributions at any time by visiting your Square Balance.

  • Can I transfer funds between folders?

    Yes. You can transfer funds instantly between folders, for free.

  • How do I transfer funds out of Square to an external bank account?

    You can use instant transfers to send your money directly from Folders to an external bank account for a 1.5% fee or to your linked bank account in 1–2 business days for free.

    If you have a Square Card, you can do all of the above and transfer money from a folder to your Square Card balance - instantly and free of charge. You can also instantly transfer a lump sum into a folder from your Square Card for free.

    Yes. You can create as many Balance Folders as you’d like – for free. There are no account fees or minimum balance required.

Funds generated through Square’s payment processing services are generally available through Square Card immediately after a payment is processed. Fund availability times may vary due to technical issues.
Square does not charge fees, but ATM withdrawal fees charged by ATM providers may apply. Square Card is funded on a prepaid basis. Square Card is not a bank account and Square Card funds are not CDIC-insured.

Instant transfers require a linked debit card and cost a fee per transfer. Only physical Canadian debit cards with Visa Debit or PLUS network support can be linked to a Square account at this time. Funds are subject to your bank’s availability schedule, but are generally available in your bank account within 20 minutes of initiating an instant transfer. Minimum amount is $25 CAD and maximum is $5,000 CAD in a single transfer. New Square sellers may be limited to one instant transfer per day of up to $500 CAD.
