Migrate from Square Online to the new Square plans
About migrating from Square Online
If you're on a legacy Square Online Plus or Premium plan, you can now migrate to the new Square Plus or Square Premium plans directly from your Square Dashboard — no need to contact support.
When you migrate, your legacy Square Online hosting plan is automatically cancelled and you receive a pro-rated refund for any remaining days in your current billing cycle. Your custom domains and Google Workspace subscriptions are not affected and continue to be billed separately.
After migrating, you'll have access to all the features included in your new plan, including online selling capabilities, loyalty and marketing programs, staff management, and advanced POS features.
Before you begin
You must be on a legacy Square Online Plus or Premium paid plan.
Your account must be based in the United States.
You need the account & settings permission to manage subscriptions.
Migrate to a new Square plan
Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Pricing & subscriptions.
Click See what's new in the "New Square plans now available" banner.
Review the details and click Choose a plan.
Select Square Plus or Square Premium.
Click Continue with the plan you want.
Enter your payment method and click Start subscription.
Your legacy Square Online hosting plan is automatically cancelled and a pro-rated refund is issued to your original payment method within 5–10 business days.
What to expect after migrating
Pro-rated refund: You'll receive a refund for the unused days remaining in your Square Online billing cycle. The refund is calculated based on the daily rate of your plan multiplied by the number of remaining days.
Legacy plan cancellation: Your Square Online Plus or Premium hosting plan is automatically cancelled — you don't need to manually unsubscribe.
Custom domains: Any custom domains you purchased through Square remain active and are billed separately on their existing schedule.
Google Workspace: Your Google Workspace subscription is unaffected and continues to be billed separately.
New billing cycle: Your new Square Plus or Square Premium plan begins billing immediately based on your number of active locations.
POS app restart: You'll be prompted to restart any Square POS apps you use. Restarting should take less than a minute and may require you to sign back in.
Troubleshoot migration issues
You see a "Something went wrong" error
Wait a few minutes and try again. If the error persists, contact Square Support for assistance.
The migration seems stuck
The migration process can take 10–15 minutes to complete. If it hasn't finished after 15 minutes, sign out of your Dashboard and sign back in. Your data is not affected during this process.
You don't see the migration option
The self-serve migration option is only available to eligible sellers. Confirm that you meet all the criteria listed in the "Before you begin" section above. If you believe you're eligible but don't see the option, contact Square Support.
