Add a Physical Item to Square Online
In addition to syncing items created in Square, you can also create items from the Store page in your online store dashboard. There are just a few simple steps to adding an item, and we’ll go over them here.
Create a New Item
To get started, go to Items > Item Library on your dashboard, and click Add Item.
First, you’ll select the item type and set up the basic information: the title, description, visibility and add one or more images to show different views of the item.
Tip: Items created directly in your online store will sync back to your Square account, but there are some details that don’t sync over. If you see a left and right arrow icon next to an item, that means the information will sync.
Set a Fulfillment Method and Optional Prep Time
Next, set a fulfillment method for your item. You can choose from shipping, in-store pickup, or allow the customer to choose between shipping and pickup. If you select pickup or both and your item takes time to prepare, you can set a custom prep time from the following range:
Use location default - Applies the prep time you selected in Store > Setup > Pickup > Location settings.
No prep time - The item doesn’t require preparation and is available for pickup immediately.
Minutes - Choose from 5, 15, 30, or 45 minutes prep time.
Hours - Choose from 1, 1.5, 2, or 5 hours prep time.
Business days - Choose from 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 business days prep time.
Weeks - Choose from 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 weeks prep time.
Add Price, Inventory, and Variations
Scroll down to the Variations section to enter the price and an item SKU or ID if you have one (you can leave this blank if you don’t), then enter the weight of the item for shipping purposes. You can set a stock quantity for your item after saving. Learn more about managing item stock here.
If you’re selling items with different colors, sizes, or other choices, you can use Variations and Modifiers to create these options. Your customers can then choose which version of the item they want when adding it to the cart.
Choose a Category
Scroll down and click Choose Categories to place the item in one or more categories. Categories here are different from the ones in your Square account and are meant to help organize your items. You can skip this if you don’t want to create categories for your online store.
Edit SEO Settings
Finally, enter a title and description that will be shown in search engine results. Don’t worry if you aren’t sure what to put here - we’ll automatically use the item title and description you entered earlier if you leave these blank. You can also optionally set a custom URL for your item page.
When you’re done, click the Save button to make the item available in your online store.
