Square’s online payroll service is the easiest way to pay your employees and contractors. We handle everything from employee and contractor direct deposit to making your tax payments and filings, at no extra cost. You’ll be up and running payroll in minutes with our easy setup.
Get started in three steps you can follow below.
Gather your Required Business Information
Legal business name, business type, address (as registered with your EIN), and business locations. If you plan to process payroll for different locations across multiple tax jurisdictions, you’ll need to provide your tax account number for each location.
Employee and contractor email address (if you are enabling employee online accounts)

Physical mailing address
Social Security Number
Tax withholding information
Create your Account
You can go to squareup.com/payroll and click Get Started to create your Payroll account. You'll need to:
Enter the business information listed above.
Enable two-step verification to protect your account from unauthorized access and to add an additional layer of security.
Add your W-2 employees and/or 1099 contractors to Square Payroll.
Verify your bank account.
