About dining options
When you’re ringing up a sale on the Square Point of Sale app or Square Restaurant POS app, you can note whether customers are dining in, taking their items to go or requesting delivery.
Your selected dining option will appear in the following places:
Customer receipts
Order tickets for the kitchen and KDS
In-app sales history
Advanced reporting and downloadable CSVs from your Square Dashboard
Before you begin
You can create a total of ten dining options.
Dining options are saved to your item library and not to any specific device.
Dining options aren’t available for online orders placed from your online store or third party orders. Online orders use fulfilment types.

Manage dining options
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & services (or Items & menus or Items & inventory) > Items.
- From Settings, select Dining options.
- Click Set Up Dining Options.
- Four default options are automatically created when the feature is enabled: For Here, To Go, Delivery or Pickup.
- You can keep the default list or customise your options by toggling options on or off.
The first dining option listed will be the default for every new sale. Only non-default dining options will show in the order ticket. Dining options are location-specific and you can customise the list for each location.
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & services (or Items & menus or Items & inventory) > Items.
- From Settings, select Dining options.
- To edit, delete or create new dining options, click Edit Dining Options and enter a dining option name or make other changes. Click Save.
- To rearrange your options, click the three horizontal lines next to the dining option name and drag and drop the option to your preferred order.
Apply dining options
For every order placed on the POS, your default dining option is automatically applied to the current ticket.
