Use Square AI to get insights about your business
About Square AI
Square AI allows you to ask for help or ask questions about your Square business data. Simply ask your question in Square Dashboard or on the Square Dashboard app and AI does the rest. Square AI supports asking about sales, transactions, staff, customers and general help topics. You can also ask Square AI to search the Web for real-time information that might affect your business, like asking for the weather, events in your area or reviews for your own or other local businesses.
The best way to understand what you can and can’t ask is to just try it out, but you can also click through the suggestions in the chat or look at what’s available in your Square reports. Here are some example questions, listed by topic:

Before you begin
Square AI is a new feature in open beta. This means that it currently supports certain data and can’t answer questions about all data within Square. You can also ask to compare, group and filter supported data in a variety of ways, but Square AI may not support every type of question. The best way to learn what Square AI can do is to just ask, or click through suggestions in the chat.
Using Square AI is free and optional to use. If you decide not to use Square AI, it won’t affect other parts of your Square experience.
Square AI is built on large language model (LLM) technology. LLMs make it possible to ask questions in your own words, but they can make mistakes. Please validate Square AI’s responses for accuracy.
Square AI is available in Square Dashboard and on the Square Dashboard app across iOS and Android, and requires internet access. It is not available in Square POS.
Square AI exclusively uses data available within your Square account, Square’s Support Centre and publicly available information on the Web. It doesn’t have the complete context of your business, employees, customers or applicable laws, and it is not meant as legal, financial, tax or employment advice.
Square AI can only bring you data from supported sources, and cannot make updates or take action on your account.
If you aren’t able to answer a question about Square, you can always ask AI for help contacting support.
Ask Square AI a question
Sign in to Square Dashboard and click the star icon in the bottom left of your screen. From the Square Dashboard app, tap the star icon in the bottom centre of your screen. You can also ask questions directly from Square Dashboard’s home page.
Type your question or choose one of the suggested questions and press Enter to start your conversation with Square AI.
After Square AI processes your data, the results of your question will appear in your chat with Square AI. If needed, click the expand button in the top right of your chat to expand your answer into a full-screen view.
If needed, ask a follow-up or clarifying question to refine or expand on your results, such as “I meant for net sales” or “break down by location.”
If you find an answer valuable and want to monitor its trends over time, you can expand your chat and click the pin icon to save a chart or table so it auto-updates.
You can always review and add to old conversations by clicking on the clock icon in the top right of the chat window.
If an answer doesn’t look right to you, try rephrasing your question, or review our best practices below. You can also always provide feedback by clicking the thumbs-up or thumbs-down buttons below an answer.
Answers can be delivered as text, in a table or chart. AI determines the best format for your answer but you can always ask specifically for what you want in your question, like “What were my net sales by day of the week as a bar chart?” or, as a follow-up, “as a line chart.” You can also download the data from your AI chat as a CSV file.
Square AI can be used anywhere in Square Dashboard. You can navigate to other pages in Square Dashboard while keeping your AI chat open, or you can close the chat window and come back to it later. You can also end a conversation by clicking the pencil icon.
Review Square AI best practices
AI is a new, rapidly evolving technology. It can make mistakes, and you may find it can’t yet help with one type of question, but it can help with another. The best way to understand what Square AI can and can’t do is to try it out, and give feedback when it goes well versus when it doesn’t. Here are a few general tips to get the most out of Square AI:
Be as specific as possible. If you’re asking about something in Square, such as an item in your catalogue or an employee name, use the exact name. If AI has trouble finding it, try including what it is in the question, such as “What are the sales for large coffees last week?”
Verify assumptions. AI will often have to make assumptions about what you are looking for. For example, if you ask for your sales last week, it will have to guess whether you meant your net sales or gross sales and what dates represent last week. It will also include all data unless specified, so if you normally filter out a particular location or channel, you will need to specify that in your question. Read the AI-generated answer to confirm and ask a follow-up question to refine the response.
Try again. Sometimes AI can make a mistake or hit an unexpected problem. Simply telling the AI to try again can sometimes be all that’s required, or refining your question with more specificity.
“By” grouping. Asking for data “by” something is an easy way to ensure you get a lot of data at once. For example, you can ask for sales by category, discounts by month, first-time visits by location, and that will create a breakdown.
“At” and “for” filtering. Asking “at” or “for” something is an easy way to filter what you’re looking for. For example, you can ask for sales at a particular location, or refunds for a particular item, channel or similar.
Verify Square AI’s accuracy. AI can make mistakes. Make sure you check outputs before relying on them.
