With Square for Retail Plus or Premium, you can create and print barcode labels from Square Dashboard or the Square Retail POS app on an iOS device and Square Register.
Square for Retail supports price embedded barcodes, which are barcodes that have a price built into them.
You have three options for creating barcode labels in the Retail POS app:
By selecting a custom list of items
By receiving stock through a purchase order
By selecting a completed or partially received purchase order

Before you begin
To create and print barcode labels, you need to have access to your Square Dashboard or the Square Retail POS app on an iOS device or Square Register. You also need a compatible barcode label printer. Compare barcode printers and label sizes with Square for Retail.
Create and print barcode labels from the Retail POS app
You can print barcode labels from the Retail POS app.
- Open the Retail POS app.
- Tap Inventory > Stock overview.
- Tap Print labels.
- Tap on the forward arrow (>) to choose a label template with the type of information you want on the label.
- Select the label size that best suits the type of product the labels will be applied to.
- Choose the barcode type (SKU or GTIN).
- Select a template from the options displayed – price, item name and variation name can be used.
- Use the search bar to find and select items to add to the list.
- Tap Print.
- After receiving stock of items, tap Print labels.
- Tap on the forward arrow (>) to choose a label template with the type of information you want on the label.
- Select the label size that best suits the type of product the labels will be applied to.
- Choose the barcode type (SKU or GTIN).
- Select a template from the options displayed – price, item name and variation name can be used.
- Tap Print.
- Open the Retail POS app.
- Tap Inventory > Purchase orders.
- Tap on a received or partially received purchase order.
- Tap Print labels.
- Tap on the forward arrow (>) to choose a label template with the type of information you want on the label.
- Select the label size that best suits the type of product the labels will be applied to.
- Choose the barcode type (SKU or GTIN).
- Select a template from the options displayed – price, item name and variation name can be used.
- Use the search bar to find and select items to add to the list.
- Tap Print.
Create and print barcode labels from Square Dashboard
You can print barcode labels from your Item library in Square Dashboard.
You can print labels by category, from a purchase order or manually add items.
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Items & orders > Items > Item library.
- Click the Actions drop-down menu and select Print labels.
- Select a label type, location, barcode format and label details.
- Click Select by Category, Select from Purchase Order or Add item.
- Select items based on how you chose to print labels. If applicable, click Done.
- Click Create Labels.
- Click Print Labels Now or Download PDF to save the file on your desktop computer or laptop.
Review the instructions below to learn how to print decommissioned DYMO label sizes via the Google Chrome web browser. The below instructions are specific to DYMO Label 30346 (½” x 1 ⅞” or 12.7 x 47.67 mm).
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Items & orders > Items > Item library.
- Click the Actions drop-down menu and select Print labels.
- Click Label Type and select Deprecated DYMO 30346 – LW Library Barcode Labels ½ x 1 7/8.
- Select a location, barcode format and label details.
- Click Add item, select your item(s) and enter the quantity.
- Click Create labels > Print Labels Now.
- From the Destination drop-down menu, select DYMO LabelWriter550 as the printer.
- Set Copies to 1.
- Under the More Settings section, make sure that Paper size is 12.7 x 47.67 mm.
- Set Pages per sheet to 1.
- From the Scale drop-down menu, select Fit to printable area.
- Click Print.
View printer queue
To view your printer’s queue:
Open the Retail POS app.
Tap ≡ More > Settings > Hardware > Printers.
View print jobs under the Queue section.
If applicable, tap Retry on any failed print jobs.
