SEO Settings for Square Online Websites

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) allows you to optimise your items and categories for search engine results, but you can also add SEO information to your Square Online site to help it rank better. One of the first steps to take is to edit the SEO settings for both your entire site and the individual pages that make up your site. Learn more below.
Note: Changes to SEO settings can take time to show up in search results.
The SEO settings for your entire site are located in the Square Online Overview page in Website > SEO. These settings are particular to your website’s homepage, and what you enter here will sync to the SEO settings for the homepage found in the Square Online site editor.
In Website > SEO, click the Update SEO button to enter a site title and description that will be displayed in search engine results. The description text will help people understand what your website is about. For example, let’s say you have a flower shop in a specific city. You might write something like this:
Flowers and Such is a professional florist in My Town with 25 years experience making birthdays a little brighter and anniversaries a little rosier. We have roses, lilies, orchids, tulips and every other flower under the sun.
If you aren’t ready for your website to be indexed by search engines, you can use the toggle here to hide your entire website from search engines. You can change this setting later, but keep in mind that it can take some time for search engines to begin indexing your website.
SEO settings for each individual page are located in the Square Online site editor within the settings panel for each page. Click the gear icon to open the settings, then click the SEO tab.
The title you enter here will be shown in search engine results, but will not change the title of the page in your website navigation menu. Be concise and descriptive, and aim for around 50 characters in length.
Enter a brief description for this page in the description field, keeping in mind the 130 character limit. As you enter text for the title and description, the search results preview updates in real time.
You can also hide individual pages from search engines using the options under Search visibility. Hiding a single page from search engines will prevent that specific page from showing up in search results, but it won’t affect any of your other pages.
Note: Hiding and unhiding pages is not effective immediately. If your page or entire website have already been indexed, it can take a while to drop out of search results. The same is true in reverse – getting a page or website to show up in search results also takes time.
