How to Accept Payments on Mobile
With Square Reader
Get set up

Before you get started, make sure you’ve downloaded the Square Point of Sale app on your phone.
Open the Square Point of Sale app and sign in. Connect your Square Reader. Depending on your hardware setup, either plug in your reader or connect via Bluetooth.

Set the amount
Enter the amount to be charged or select specific items from your item library. If you haven’t yet, learn more about building your item library.

Complete the sale
Tap Charge then tap, insert or swipe the payment method. Your customer can then enter their PIN, add a tip and choose to receive an email or text message receipt.
Note: if you purchased an Square contactless and chip card reader, learn how to accept payments.
Without Square Reader
Get set up
Before you get started, make sure you’ve downloaded the Square Point of Sale app on your phone.
Open the Square Point of Sale app and sign in.

Set the amount
Enter the amount to be charged or select specific items from your item library.

Enter the card information
Confirm the total amount and tap Charge. Select “Credit or Card”. Enter the card information and tap Charge.

Complete the sale
On the confirmation page, your customer can sign, add a tip and choose to receive an email or text message receipt. If your customer isn’t present, simply tap Done Signing. You can text or email a receipt to your customer on the next screen.
Note: When you key in a card number, the fee is 2.2% instead of the standard 1.9% per swipe or tap, dip or swipe.

Invoice
Set the invoice amount
Before you get started, make sure you’ve downloaded the Square Point of Sale app on your phone or tablet.
Open the Square Point of Sale app. Enter the amount you want to invoice or select items from the item library. Tap Charge.

Create your invoice
Select Invoice from the list of payment options. Complete the requested information, including the email address of the invoice recipient, and add a custom message in the message field (optional).

Send your invoice
Once the information is complete, tap Send. Your customer receives an emailed invoice that looks like this, and you get a copy in your inbox.
To schedule an invoice or create a series of recurring invoices, sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to the Invoices tab.

Track invoice payment
Once your invoice is sent, you can track whether it has been paid from your Dashboard.
