Get Started with Square Checking Transfers
You can link an external bank account to your Square Checking account to transfer funds the next business day, or instantly. Learn more about linking and editing an external bank account.
Note: If you’ve accepted a Square Loans offer, you will need to have a linked bank account.
Manually Transfer Your Balance
Once you’ve signed up for Square Checking, your transfers will switch from automatic to manual. Funds you earn will accrue in your Square Checking balance.
You will still be able to transfer your funds from your balance to your linked bank account at any time, either next business day, or with instant transfers with a 1.75% fee per transfer.
To transfer funds out of your Square Checking balance to your linked bank account from your Square Point of Sale app:
Open the app and navigate to Balance and tap Transfer to Bank.
Enter the amount you want to transfer.
Choose a transfer speed. You can use next-business-day transfer or instant transfer.
Confirm your transfer.
To transfer funds out of your Square Checking balance to your linked bank account from the Square Dashboard app:
Open your app, tap Banking, and select your Square Checking account from the Locations section.
Tap Transfer out and choose your transfer speed and tap Next.
Enter the amount you want to transfer and tap Next.
Confirm your transfer.
Note: You can also choose to transfer funds out of your Square Checking balance to your other Square bank accounts.
Locate your Account & Routing Number
Your Square Checking account includes account and routing numbers for making inbound and outbound transfers. You can use your account and routing numbers to allow third parties to debit your Square Balance at no additional cost to complete payments for bills or expenses. You can also use your account and routing numbers to deposit funds into your Square Balance.
You can view your account number and routing number from your Square app or online Dashboard:
From the Square Point of Sale app:
Open the app and tap Balance
Scroll down to see your account and routing numbers.
From your online Square Dashboard:
Go to Balance, and select a location under Locations.
Click the gear icon, then select Transfer settings.
Click View account & routing number. You’ll be prompted to provide a verification code that was sent to the email address associated with your Square account.
Once you provide the code, select Next. Your account and routing numbers will be visible, and you can copy your account details onto your device.
From the Square Dashboard app:
Log in to your app and tap Banking from the main menu.
Select the Square Checking account you want to view from the Locations section and scroll down to Account details to view your account and routing numbers.
Add Funds to Your Square Balance
Link a debit card to instantly add funds to your Square Checking balance — so you’re always ready for purchases on your Square Debit Card, regardless of your daily sales. Unlike instant transfers to your bank account, there is no fee to instantly add funds to your Square balance. You can add up to $2,000 a day right from the Square Point of Sale app, the Square Dashboard app, or your online Square Dashboard.
Add funds from the Square Point of Sale app:
Go to the Balance section of the app.
Select Add money.
Enter the amount you want to transfer.
In the Source field, you can review the last four digits of your linked debit card.
Once you’ve confirmed the transfer details, tap Add.
Add funds from your online Square Dashboard:
Go to Balance, and select a location under Locations.
Select Add money.
Enter the amount you want to transfer.
In the Source field, you can review the last four digits of your linked debit card.
Once you’ve confirmed the transfer details, tap Add.
Add funds from the Square Dashboard app:
Tap Banking and select the Square Checking account in question from Locations.
Select Add money and select which linked card or account you want to add money from.
Enter the amount you want to transfer to your Square Checking account.
Confirm your transfer details.
Note: New sellers are limited to adding $500 via the Add Money feature per day. As you continue processing with Square, your daily limit will increase.
