Nevada Employer Tax Information

To sign up for Square payroll online in Nevada, you must provide valid Employer Tax numbers and tax rates.

Add Your Nevada Payroll Account Numbers to Square Payroll

You must provide a valid Nevada Account Number and Modified Business Tax (MBT) Account Number to sign up for Square Payroll. These numbers are required for us to make state tax payments and filings on your behalf.

Don’t Have a Nevada Account Number and/or an MBT Account Number?

To get your Nevada Account Number and MBT Account Number, register online with the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

Once you complete registration, you will receive your nine-digit (XXXXXXX.XX) Nevada Account Number and your ten-digit (10XXXXXXXX) MBT Account Number. Both numbers will also be included in the New Nevada Employer Welcome Package that is mailed to you once you complete registration.

Can’t Locate Your Nevada Account Number and/or Your MBT Account Number?

To locate your Nevada Account Number:

  • Log in online to your DETR account.

  • Call 775-687-4545.

To locate your MBT Account Number:

  • Locate the New Nevada Employer Welcome Package you received after registering with the DETR.

  • Call 866-962-3707.

Add Your Nevada Tax Rates to Square Payroll

To sign up with Square Payroll, you’re required to provide your Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax rate.

To locate your UI tax rate:

  • If you are a new employer, you will receive your UI tax rate after you complete registration with the DETR. 

  • If you are an existing employer, you can find your current UI rate on the Notice of Employer’s Contribution Rates that is sent annually by the state. 

  • Call 775-687-4545.

Note: Please exclude the CEP Rate from the UI tax rate provided to Square Payroll. 

You are responsible for ensuring Square Payroll has the correct UI tax rate for your business. If you need to update your rate, you can do so from the Tax Info tab in your online Square Dashboard.
