Connect Recommended Hardware to Square Stand

The Square Stand for Contactless and Chip makes it easy to connect compatible cash drawers, receipt printers, and barcode scanners. To start, be sure your Square Stand is connected to the USB hardware hub and plugged into a power outlet.

Connect Hardware to the Square Stand

  1. Plug your Square contactless and chip reader Dock into a USB port on the hardware hub, then add a supported USB cash drawer, receipt printer, barcode scanner, and or USB scale into a USB port on the hardware hub. The USB hardware hub is the rectangular component that connects your Square Stand to the power adapter.

  2. When a piece of hardware is properly connected, the Square app will give you confirmation.

To test your cash drawer and receipt printer:

  1. Tap More from the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.

  2. Tap Settings > Hardware.

  3. Tap the hardware you’d like to test from the list (e.g., Cash Drawers, Printers).

From here, you’ll see the connected hardware.

Note: Note: If you need to connect more than three hardware accessories to your Square Stand we recommend using a printer-driven cash drawer to free up space on your USB hardware hub.

Tips for Connecting Hardware to the Square Stand

* The cash drawer will open automatically after every cash payment when properly connected.
* You can also connect a Escáner de código de barras con bluetooth to the Square Stand.

Note: The contactless and chip card reader can connect to the Square stand via bluetooth, or by connecting the dock to the Stand’s USB hardware hub. If you’re using one of the USB ports in the hardware hub to charge your contactless and chip card reader, you’ll want to make sure the cash drawer you’re using is connected through your printer.

Troubleshoot the USB Barcode Scanner:

If the Motorola Symbol LS2208 barcode scanner is listed as “not compatible” when plugged in to your stand, reset the barcode scanner. To do so:

  1. Print the Guía de inicio rápido de Motorola. This step is necessary for completing the remaining steps.

  2. Scan the barcode labeled HID KEYBOARD EMULATION from the printed Motorola Quick Start Guide while the barcode scanner is plugged into the USB hub of the Square Stand.

  3. Unplug the barcode scanner and then plug it back into the Square Stand.

Connect Bluetooth Scale to iPads

To connect a Bluetooth scale to your device:

  1. Make sure your Bluetooth settings on your device are turned on.

  2. To check the connection, open the Square Point of Sale app and tap More from the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. Then tap Settings > Hardware > Scales.

  3. Tap the scale you’d like to pair.

If your scale ever becomes disconnected, your Point of Sale app will remember your scale and attempt to reconnect automatically.

Note: Your Square Point of Sale can pair with only one scale at a time. To pair your Bluetooth hardware with a different iPad, you’ll first need to unpair it.

Connect USB Scale to Square Stand 

To connect a USB scale to your Square Stand, you will need the right cable depending on the model of your Square Stand. If you purchased your scale from Square Shop for your Square Stand, the required cable is included. If you already own a scale, you can find the cable needed to connect to your Square Stand on the Square Shop.

  1. Plug in the 9 pin male end of the cable into the port on your scale. 

  2. Note: For Square Stand for iPad (2017, 2018), iPad Pro 9.7", and iPad Air (1, 2), you need to connect the 9 pin male end of the Serial-to-HID adapter into the port on your scale and plug the Micro-USB end of the cable to the adapter.

  3. Insert the USB-A end into the Hub of your Square Stand.

  4. To check the connection, open the Square Point of Sale app and tap the three horizontal lines on the navigation bar.

  5. Tap Settings > Scales.

  6. The connected scale should appear in the app menu as USB Scale. Keep in mind your Square Point of Sale app can only connect to one scale at a time.

To disconnect the scale, simply unplug the scale’s cable from your device.

Note: Brecknell 6710U and CAS SW-RS are supported with the following Square Stands:

  • Square Stand for iPad (2017, 2018), iPad Pro 9.7", and iPad Air (1, 2)

  • Square Stand for iPad (2021, 2020, 2019), 10.5" iPad Air (2019), iPad Pro 10.5”
