Manage receipt settings on Square Point of Sale

About receipt settings

Square Point of Sale includes receipt settings that control what happens at the end of a transaction. You can choose whether to show the receipt screen during checkout, and on supported devices, automatically print an additional copy of the receipt.

These settings are found in Settings > Checkout > Signature and receipt, under the Receipt section.

Before you begin

  • Receipt settings are available on iOS and Android devices running Square Point of Sale.

  • The Print additional receipt at checkout option is available on Square Terminal (2nd generation) running Android. This feature is rolling out gradually, so the option may not appear on your device yet.

  • Receipt settings are device-local — you must configure them on each device individually. They cannot be set from Square Dashboard or synced via device profiles.

Skip the receipt screen

Toggle Skip receipt screen on to remove the receipt prompt at the end of checkout. This speeds up the checkout flow for high-volume environments.

When this setting is on:

  • Digital receipts are sent automatically to customers who have opted to receive them.

  • Rewards are applied automatically when available.

  • Customers will not be prompted to choose a receipt method (print, text, email, or no receipt) at checkout.

To enable:

  1. From your Square app, tap ≡ More.

  2. Tap Settings > Checkout > Signature and receipt.

  3. Under Receipt, toggle Skip receipt screen on.

Print an additional receipt at checkout

Toggle Print additional receipt at checkout on to automatically print a second itemized sales receipt after each standard checkout. This is useful when you need both a merchant copy and a customer copy without manually reprinting.

Note: This setting is available on Square Terminal (2nd generation) with Android only. It is rolling out gradually, so the option may not appear on your device yet.

When this setting is on:

  • A second identical receipt prints automatically from the built-in printer after each completed sale.

  • The additional receipt prints from the built-in printer only — external printers are not supported for this feature.

  • This applies to standard checkout transactions only (not invoices, refunds, or authorization slips).

To enable:

  1. From your Square Terminal, tap ≡ More.

  2. Tap Settings > Checkout > Signature and receipt.

  3. Under Receipt, toggle Print additional receipt at checkout on.
