Customize Background Images on Connected Square Terminal

You can add custom background images to your connected Square Terminal from your Square Dashboard. These images will only appear on your Square Terminal when it’s connected as a buyer-facing display to Virtual Terminal, Square Point of Sale, or Square for Retail. For the best quality image, use an image size of 1080 x 1920 pixels.

Add a Background Image

  1. Log in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings.

  2. Click Business information > Locations and select a location.

  3. Scroll down to the Branding section and click Terminal Background.

  4. Drag and drop an image or select Browse file to upload your desired image(s). You can add up to 4 images.

  5. Click Save.

Images uploaded to your main location will automatically populate when creating any new locations.

View Your Background Images on Connected Square Terminal

  1. Sign in to the connected Square Terminal using a device code.

  2. Open the menu and tap Settings > Hardware > Display.

  3. Toggle on Show business name to display the location’s business name.

  4. Toggle on Show image to display the images you uploaded.

  5. Use the slider at the bottom to select how long each image will display before transitioning to the next image.

Remove a Background Image

  1. Log in to your Square Dashboard and click Account & Settings.

  2. Click Business information > Locations and select a location.

  3. Scroll down to the Branding section and click Terminal Background.

  4. Click the trash can icon next to the image you want to remove.

  5. Click Save.

Troubleshoot Connected Terminal Background Image

I don’t see the Terminal Background section in the Location settings on my Square Dashboard

This section will not appear until after you’ve successfully connected a Square Terminal with Virtual Terminal, Square Point of Sale, or Square for Retail.

I don’t see the settings on my connected Square Terminal to enable my location name or uploaded background images

Please ensure you are signed in to the connected Square Terminal using the device code provided when connecting Square Terminal to Square Point of Sale, Square for Retail, or Virtual Terminal. These settings will not appear in the Virtual Terminal section of your Square Dashboard or in Square Point of Sale or Square for Retail app settings.

I uploaded ‘Terminal Background’ images in the Location settings on my Square Dashboard, but they aren’t showing up the Square Terminal display settings

Try exiting the connected Square Terminal’s display settings menu and entering back in. If you still aren’t seeing your uploaded background images, sign out of the connected Square Terminal then sign back in using the device code provided when you first paired the connected Square Terminal.
