Schedule inventory restocks
About scheduling automatic restocks
Automatic inventory restocks allow you to set a specific day and time for the items marked as sold out to automatically restock, or use your business’s end of day to keep your stock counts accurate and up to date.
Before you begin
You have two options for scheduling inventory restocks:
Square Dashboard on a laptop or desktop computer
Your point-of-sale app and devices
Make sure you’ve created at least one item in your item library before scheduling an inventory restock. Learn more about how to create and edit items with Square.
You can schedule restocks only for items that are currently out of stock. This applies to items marked as sold out in your item library. Learn more about how to mark items and modifiers as sold out.
Schedule inventory restocks
Effective scheduling of inventory restocks ensures that products are consistently available to meet customer demand while optimizing storage and reducing costs.
Once you schedule an automatic restock time, a calendar icon will appear in the Available to Sell column of your Item library.
Square Dashboard
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & menus (or Items & inventory) > Items > Item library.
- Click the status pill next to the item you want to schedule a restock for.
- In the availability popover/modal, select Sold out.
- Toggle ON Choose a time to reset to available.
- Choose to keep the restock scheduled for the end of your business day or use the date selector to choose a custom date and time.
- Click Save.
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & menus (or Items & inventory) > Items > Item library.
- Click the status pill next to the item you want to schedule a restock for.
- In the availability modal, select the variation you want to update.
- Select Sold out.
- Toggle ON Choose a time to reset to available.
- Use the date selector to choose a custom date and time.
- Click Save.
Point-of-sale app
- Open your point of sale app and tap ≡ More.
- Tap Items > All Items.
- Tap on the item you want to schedule an automatic restock.
- Tap Manage stock under the Price and inventory section.
- Toggle on Label as sold out at this location.
- Tap Choose a time to mark for sale again > Specify a time and date.
- Choose the date and time.
- Tap Done.
- Review your changes and tap Done > Save.
Set up a negative stock warning
Open the Retail POS app and tap ≡ More from the navigation bar.
Tap Settings > Checkout.
Tap Negative stock warning and toggle on Show warning.
