Set age restrictions on items with Square for Retail

Who is this article for?
  • Sellers with general items and inventory permissions. Set permissions in the Square Dashboard.
  • Square for Retail Free, Plus and Premium subscribers.
  • About age restrictions on items

With Square for Retail, you can set age restrictions on items in your Item library. Use age restrictions to prompt for age verification when you sell age-restricted items from the Square Retail POS app.

    Before you begin

You can set age restrictions from your Square Dashboard.

With Square for Retail Free, you can receive a prompt to manually verify your customer’s age. With Square for Retail Plus or Premium, you can verify age by manually entering the buyer’s date of birth.

Sellers who offer age-restricted products must follow local regulations regarding age verification whenever a customer purchases one of these items, such as the case with alcohol or tobacco products.

Age restrictions are intended to help you comply with local regulations. Block, Inc. is not responsible for the sale of age-restricted items to minors.
