Add Custom Tracking Code to Square Online
With Square Online, you can add tracking and custom header codes to your site for analytics, and customizing the online experience for visitors and customers.
Note: This article describes how to insert certain types of code that aren’t intended to be visible and need to be inserted into the header of your website (e.g. Google Analytics or Meta Pixel). This is in contrast to embedded code that’ll display on your website (e.g. an event calendar or reservation widget). Learn more about adding embed code to your website for details on how to use the embed code section in the site editor.
Add Custom Tracking Code with Built-in Options
From your Square Online Overview page, go to Settings > Tracking Tools. There are several built-in options here that allow you to paste in your code or ID, and have it automatically added to your website after publishing it from the site editor.
Add Google Analytics tracking to monitor traffic, products, transactions, checkout data and other statistics for your Square Online site. Find your tracking ID in your Google Analytics account.
Learn more about how to set up your Google Analytics account and find your Tracking ID in Google’s support centre.
Use Google Verification to verify your website with Google. Find your verification meta tag from Google, and you can then complete the verification process with Google. Learn more about how to verify your site with search engines like Google.
Add Your Own Custom Tracking Code
To add your own header or footer code to your Square Online site for third-party integrations and tracking:
From your Square Online Overview page, go to Settings > Tracking Tools.
Select Add new code.
In the pop-up window, enter in the code’s name and the code itself into the corresponding fields.
To place the code in the header, select head. To place the code in the footer, select End of body.
Select Save when finished.
Publish your site from the Square Dashboard to see the changes live.
Note: Unless you’ve been instructed to do so, it’s okay to leave these fields blank. Never use them for keywords or generic text, as doing so could have an adverse effect on your website.
Disclaimer: Since the Square Online site editor is a "what-you-see-is-what-you-get" type of software and no custom-coding is necessary to create a website with Square, we’re unable to assist with custom code of any kind. This means that we can guide you on where custom code can be used throughout the Square Online platform, but we’re unable to assist with the code itself.
With this in mind, using any code associated with your website must be done with the knowledge and understanding of how the code could affect your website and its function. All custom code you associate with your site is optional, and not necessary to make it work or appear online.
Should you need assistance with custom code associated with your site at any time, we recommend consulting a coding expert.
