Site Preferences for Square Online

The Square Online Overview page offers a number of options that affect the look, function and visibility of your website, including your site title, favicon, password protection and a few more. To access these options, go to the Square Online Overview page in your Dashboard and select Website > Site Preferences.

Note: These preferences are different from Square Online settings and item preferences.

Site Title

This refers to the name of your website, which is displayed on browser tabs and your app site icon. It can also display on your website instead of your logo. Typically, your business or brand name will make a good title.

To edit the site title, select Change site title. You can also open the site switcher menu from the Overview page and select ‘...’ > Change site title under the site you want to update. Learn more about managing multiple sites from the site switcher menu.

Note: To use your logo on your website header and footer instead of the site title, go to your Square Online site editor. Learn more about adding a logo to your Square Online site.

Site Icon

Note: Using a custom site icon requires an upgrade on your Square Online site.

In order to facilitate access to your Square Online site, you can allow your customers to add a branded site icon directly to their phones that looks like an app icon. An app site icon encourages quick access to your site without your customer needing to input a URL into their web browser each time. Learn more about setting up an app site icon for your Square Online site.

Cookie Consent

Square Online allows you to be compliant with consumer privacy data laws by enabling you to add a cookie banner to your website in one of two different ways. Learn more about how to add a cookie banner to Square Online with Cookiebot or how to add a cookie banner to Square Online with third-party code.

Site QR Code

You can use a QR code for your Square Online site that will take customers directly to your homepage. This can be useful to print out and include in pickup orders, on your checkout counter or anywhere else you think it might be useful. For the QR code to work, just be sure your website is published. Select Manage QR code to get started.

Note: If you need multiple QR codes mapped to multiple ordering stations (think tables, seats, parking spots, etc.), you can use self-serve ordering with Square Online. Customers use their mobile devices to scan a QR code wherever they are to place an order from their phones without touching a menu. Learn more about setting up self-serve ordering for Square Online and accepting QR code payments with Square.

Favicon

Note: Using favicons requires an upgrade on your Square Online site.

You can upload a custom icon (known as a favicon) to be displayed on the browser tab. This could be your business logo or some other image that represents you, your business or organization. Learn more about uploading a custom favicon to your Square Online site.

Password Protection

Note: Using password protection requires an upgrade on your Square Online site.

Enable password protection for your website to limit what can be seen to only a select number of people. Learn more about using password protection for your Square Online site.

Unpublish

Use this option if you want to temporarily take your website offline. You can republish again at any time from the Square Online site editor by selecting Publish. Learn more about how to publish your website.

Reset to Default

There may be times when you’re editing your Square Online site but prefer to start completely over with a clean canvas. Selecting the Reset to default button will unpublish your website, and reset it to its initial state before editing or uploading content. No items in your online store will be affected.

Note: be cautious with using this option, as it cannot be reversed. We don’t have the means to revert a website to a previous version or published state.

When you’re ready to add content again, do so from the Square Online site editor. Learn more about designing and customizing your Square Online site.
