Set up device codes
About device codes
Device codes are an authentication option to sign in to your Square account, instead of using an email address and password. Use device codes to pair your devices (like points of sale, phones, tablets and Square hardware) to a specific business location for device-level reporting or to sign in without needing to share passwords with employees.
With device codes, you can set up, monitor and manage all of the Square hardware and POS apps associated with your Square account from your Square Dashboard.
Before you begin
You can set up device codes from the Square Dashboard. You will also need the Square hardware or POS device you are creating a device code for to finalise setup.
You can reset and generate new device codes from your Square Dashboard. A paired device code is a device code that has been used to sign a device into your Square Account.
While setting up a device profile is not a requirement for using device codes, it is beneficial to use both features together, especially if you need to manage multiple devices for your business. Learn how to Create and assign device profiles.
