GPS, Maps, and Location Services

The geo-location, or GPS, on your mobile device must be turned on at all times when using Square. Square needs to know where transactions take place to reduce the risks associated with those transactions and to minimise payment disputes.

Enable Location Services

Location services is a setting controlled from your device’s general settings, not within the Square app. To enable this setting, follow the steps below:

From an Apple iOS Device

  1. Close out of the Square app.

  2. Navigate to your device Settings > Privacy > Location Services.

  3. Toggle Location Services on.

From here, you can also control which individual applications have access to location data. Read more on Apple’s support site.

From an Android Device

  1. Close out of the Square app.

  2. Navigate to your device Settings > Location Services.

  3. Enable this option.
