Square Stand and Supported Hardware FAQ

Square Stand (2nd generation) is compatible with 10.2” and 10.5” iPads, including:

• iPad (9th generation 2021)
• iPad (8th generation 2020)
• iPad (7th generation 2019)
• iPad Air (3rd generation 2019)
• iPad Pro 10.5”

Note: At this time, Square Stand and Square Stand Mount are not currently compatible with the 10.9” iPad (10th generation 2022).

Before purchasing a Square Stand, make sure you’re using a supported iPad. You can also purchase a compatible iPad from Square Shop.

When Square Stand (1st generation) is not plugged into a power outlet, it utilizes the iPad’s battery as a power source.

In this mode, the Square Stand (1st generation) will allow you to connect to Square Reader via Bluetooth to accept contactless and chip and PIN payments. Note: USB accessories are not supported in this mode.

Square Stand (2nd generation) and Square Stand Mount must be plugged into a power source at all times to take payment.
