About ordering profile menus

Your online ordering profile uses menus and menu items to build an online catalog that customers can browse and order from. Menus assigned to the ordering profile channel control which items are eligible to appear on your profile. You can manage menus, item visibility, and channel assignments from Square Dashboard.

Before you begin

  • You can manage menus from Square Dashboard.

  • You need to have an online ordering profile set up. Learn how to set up and manage your online ordering profile .

  • At least one location must be enabled for pickup or delivery for your menu to load on your ordering profile.

    • Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Online > Ordering profile > Pickup and delivery.

  • Items that appear on your ordering profile are governed by menus assigned to the "Ordering Profile" channel.

  • Item-level channel assignments further refine menu-level assignments. If an item doesn't appear on your profile, check both the menu-level and item-level channel settings.

Update your ordering profile menu

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & services (or Items & menus or Items & inventory) > Menus.

  2. Select the menu you want to edit.

  3. Make your changes and save. Changes to your menu may take a few moments to appear on your ordering profile.

Assign a menu to your ordering profile

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & services (or Items & menus or Items & inventory) > Menus.

  2. Select the menu you want to assign.

  3. Under channel assignments, confirm Ordering Profile is selected.

  4. Save your changes.

Manage item visibility on your ordering profile

If specific items are not appearing on your ordering profile after assigning the menu:

  1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Items & services (or Items & menus or Items & inventory) > Items.

  2. Select the item that isn't appearing.

  3. Confirm the item has the Ordering Profile channel assigned at the item level — not just the menu level.

  4. Confirm the item has the correct location assigned.

  5. Save your changes.

Troubleshoot a menu not loading

If your ordering profile menu isn't loading, check that at least one location is enabled for pickup or delivery, a menu is assigned to the Ordering Profile channel, and items have the correct channel and location assigned at the item level. Troubleshoot your ordering profile.

Menus assigned to the Ordering Profile channel become available shortly after you save — there is no option to schedule a future publish date. If you want to delay a menu, wait to assign the Ordering Profile channel until you are ready for it to go live.
Your ordering profile and Square Online website handle item visibility differently. Square Online uses item-level visibility settings, while your ordering profile shows all items assigned to the menu's online profile channel, subject to other item and location settings. If you use the same menu for both, you may see different items on each surface.
