Beta | Paytronix Gift Cards - Beta Merchant Support & Onboarding Guide

As a valued Square seller, you can now test our new Paytronix gift card integration. This integration allows you to use Paytronix gift cards on Square. This article will help you understand the features available to you with this beta, share limitations, and explain how to get started.

Beta Features

You will have access to the following features with this beta.

From Square POS, you can:

  • Sell physical Paytronix gift cards

  • Reload physical and digital Paytronix gift cards 

  • Clear and check the balance of a Paytronix gift card

  • Print physical receipts showing the balance associated with a Paytronix gift card

  • Manually enter a Paytronix gift card 

  • Swipe a physical Paytronix gift card using Square’s Register, Terminal or Square Reader for Magstripe

  • Scan a physical Paytronix gift card via QR code or barcode using a compatible 2D barcode scanner (check this page for available options).

  • Issue a refund back to a Paytronix gift card used as the original payment tender

From Square Dashboard, you can:

  • See Paytronix gift card use in the Sales summary, Payment methods, and Custom reports

  • Set preset amounts for physical or eGift Paytronix cards to be used on your POS

You can also redeem Paytronix gift cards on Square Online, on a Square for Franchises online ordering page, and in a Square for Franchises white-label mobile app. Paytronix gift cards can be used to cover a partial or a full sale.

Beta Limitations

What you will experience is a Beta product, which means all features have not been built out to its entirety and will include some limited functionality and/or bugs. 

Some important limitations you may notice:

  • Locations: US and CA only

  • Square gift cards functionality can not be enabled at the same time as a Paytronix gift card program 

  • Paytronix eGift cards can not be sold from Square POS

  • “Gift Cards” reports will be hidden on your Square POS, and Square Dashboard once a 3P gift card integration has gone live.

  •  Refunds to Paytronix gift cards as “store credit” where the gift card was not used as the original payment tender are not supported

  • Square eGift card ordering pages will not be active. You will need to use a Paytronix eGift card ordering page instead.

  • Paytronix gift cards can not be saved or used as a card on file  

  • Bulk sale of Paytronix Gift Cards is not supported at the Point of Sale

  • Ability to use a PIN for verification is not supported

Registering Non-Square Gift Card Data

Square needs to “pre-register” new 3P gift card numbers in our system before they can be used.

Please follow the steps below if you are:

  • Migrating gift cards from another POS or gift card provider to Paytronix to use on Square

  • Ordering new Paytronix gift cards to use on Square

  • Let Square know that you need to send us gift card numbers to be registered by emailing 3p-gift-team@squareup.com. Note: If you have an Account Manager or Account Executive at Square, please cc them.

  • Go to https://squareup.sendsafely.com/dropzone/bchoe.

  • Enter your name and email address

  • Upload a file that lists out all the gift card numbers you need to register

    1. Note: We have no preference in formatting, we just ask that you communicate a list of all card numbers. 

    2. Note: If you are already a Square Gift Cards user, this does not apply to gift cards already in your Square account.

With a gift card migration from another POS or gift card provider to Paytronix, please be aware of the following challenges:

  • Your legacy gift cards can only be manually entered, not swiped or scanned.

  • Some legacy gift cards may not be supported at all.

Get Started

Sharing Information with Paytronix

Prior to kicking off the integration, please make sure that your representative at Paytronix has the following information:

  • Which locations or accounts in Square you would like to be enabled for gift cards

  • Are you a franchise? 

  • Are you using Square Online, Square for Franchises Online or Mobile App? 

  • Do you need to scan barcodes or QR codes on gift cards?

    • If so, please ensure your barcode scanner is compatible by checking this pageagainst your hardware

  • When do you want to begin testing, and go live?

  • Do you have legacy cards from a different provider that you want to use?

Setting up your Point of Sale (POS):

  • Download or update the latest version of your POS app via App Store/Google Play.

  • For Square Register and Terminal, updates happen automatically. You can also go to Settings > Hardware > General > About Register to check if your software version is up to date. Tap Check for Update to see if there is a new software version available.

Connecting your Paytronix account to your Square account:

  • Please provide Paytronix with the names of all the Square locations and accounts you want to enable the integration for. 

    • Square will then share location and merchant IDs with Paytronix and Paytronix will work with you to configure the integration for each.

Testing the Integration

  • Please coordinate a time to test the gift card integration with your representative at Paytronix. 

  • If you are migrating from Square gift cards, you will need to arrange a time outside your business hours, so we can “turn off” Square gift cards, “turn on” Paytronix gift cards, run tests, and then reverse the process before the start of business the next day.

Going Live!

  • If you are migrating off Square Gift Cards, please inform your representative at Square of this, so we can coordinate a day and time for migration 

  • Please coordinate a go-live date and time with your representative at Paytronix, and Paytronix will coordinate with Square.
