About aging inventory

The Square for Retail Inventory Sell-through Report provides you with an organized daily snapshot of all of the information you need to effectively manage your inventory — making purchasing decisions, price adjustments, and identifying any dead stock easier.

The aging inventory report shows:

  • Average age of inventory: This metric represents the weighted average number of days items and variations have been in stock. A higher average age indicates that a larger portion of your inventory has been sitting in your store for an extended period.

  • Last Received Date: Indicates when each item and variation was last received.

  • Age Segmentation: Displays the quantity of items in stock within the last 30, 60, 90, 120 days, and beyond.

  • Total On-Hand Stock Quantity and Inventory Value: Provides insights into the total quantity and value of items currently in stock. You can also search by name, SKU, or GTIN and filter by location, category, and vendors.

To address aging inventory, consider implementing strategies like discounts, targeted marketing efforts, bundling with other products, or even donation. While these actions may lead to a temporary dip in profitability, they effectively clear out space in your store for faster-selling and more profitable items.
