Create Square Loyalty Tiers
Businesses that use Square Loyalty can create tiers to expand rewards offerings based on a buyer’s progress within a loyalty program. Customers start out in your base tier, which is your core loyalty program, and move up tiers as they shop and earn points with your business. When you launch your tiers program, all buyers will start with 0 progress in your base tier. When buyers are checking in with their contact information at the point of sale during a transaction, they’ll see their current tier level.
Customers can view their current tier, rewards status, progress to the next tier, and any bonus points from their online buyer profile, their digital loyalty pass on their smartphone, or their digital receipt after checkout. Customers will also receive SMS notifications when their tier status upgrades or downgrades.
Create Loyalty Tiers
You can create tiers while creating a loyalty program or add tiers to an existing loyalty program. Loyalty tiers come at no additional cost to your Square Loyalty subscription.
Add Tiers to an Existing Loyalty Program
If you already have an existing Square Loyalty subscription, you can add tiers to your program from your online Square Dashboard. To do so:
Log in to your Square Dashboard and click Loyalty > Tiers > Get Started.
Set up your tiers, with your base program parameters set as your first tier. Choose your second tier name (such as bronze, silver, or gold), tier color, minimum points, and benefit type, plus any optional benefits.
If you want multiple tiers, click Create another tier. We recommend starting with three tiers in addition to your base tier within your loyalty program.
Click Launch to activate the tiers within your loyalty program.
Add Tiers While Creating a New Loyalty Program
If you are new to Square Loyalty and are creating a new program, you can add tiers to your program from either the Square Point of Sale app or your online Square Dashboard once your program is set up. To do so:
From the Point of Sale app, tap More > Add-ons > Loyalty and select Get started. From your online Square Dashboard, click Loyalty > Get started.
Create your program by choosing your program terminology and program type and setting up your rewards. Review your loyalty program details and click Finish to subscribe to Square Loyalty.
From the next window, select Get Started to add tiers to your loyalty program. Your base program parameters will be set as your first tier. Choose your second tier name, tier color, minimum points, and benefit type, plus any optional benefits.
If you want additional tiers, select Create another tier. We recommend starting with three tiers within your loyalty program.
Within the Rules section, select your program rules to choose how long customers have to move through your program tiers.
Select Finish to activate your loyalty program. All customers will start in the first base tier.
Note: You can add up to six tiers to your loyalty program, including your core base tier. All tier programs will have rolling year eligibility for buyers, which means buyers will remain in a tier for one year from the day they entered that tier. Progress will be calculated on a rolling 12-month basis, meaning only actions from the past 12 months will count towards that year’s tier eligibility.
Edit or Delete Loyalty Tiers
You can edit or delete any tier within your Square Loyalty program from your online Square Dashboard. To do so:
Log in to your online Square Dashboard and click Loyalty > Tiers > Edit.
On the Edit tiers page, select the tier you want to update, make any necessary changes, and click Save.
To delete a tier, select the tier you want to delete and click Delete > Save.
If you want to delete all tiers, click Delete all tiers > Save.
When deleting a tier, you’ll see confirmation on where existing tiered buyers will land within your program, either the next eligible tier or the base tier. Since the base tier is your core Square Loyalty program, you cannot delete the last tier.
Loyalty Tier Reporting
Tier metrics appear in your business’s loyalty reports. To view your tier metrics:
Log in to your Square Dashboard and click Loyalty > Overview. Here you’ll see an overview of your program metrics.
Within the Tier members section, you’ll see the total tier member count, tier member names, total number of upgraded or downgraded customers, visits per tier, and total tier sales and spend.
If needed, click Manage tiers to edit your tier information.
Sellers using loyalty tiers can also filter their customers within smart groups. You can use your buyer’s loyalty tier information from your customer groups to create Square Marketing campaigns or a Square Loyalty promotion to offer additional rewards and promotions to your most frequent buyers.
