Your mobile check deposits can fail and be returned if either Square or our bank partners determine that the check is ineligible. Returns are commonly due to problems on the issuing bank side, such as insufficient funds or account closures, but here are a few tips you to help you avoid submission errors when using Square Point of Sale:
Endorse your check using black or blue ink only. You are required to endorse your check to submit it, and checks are often rejected for using ineligible ink colors.
Write “for Square Mobile Check Deposit only” beneath your endorsement. Adding this protects against fraud and duplicate check submissions.
Make sure to use a dark background color. Check images are easier to recognize and process with a dark background.
If you’re still having trouble depositing your check, try updating your app to the latest version.
When taking a picture of your check, use good lighting, place the check flat on a dark background, and make sure all four corners of the check are visible.
