Manage your Balance

View Your Square Card Activity

You will be able to view all activity regarding your Square Balance, including your Square Card spending transactions, transfers activity, and card processing from the Balance section of your Square app, and on your online Square Dashboard.

The Balance tab shows your current Square Balance, recent activity (including Square Card spending activity, transfer activity, and card processing), as well as options to manage your Square Card.

From this section, you are able to transfer funds from your Square Balance to your linked bank account using the standard ACH transfers, or instantly transfer funds to your linked debit card.

From your online Square Dashboard

  1. Navigate to the Balance tab of your online Square Dashboard.

  2. Select Activity > All.

From your Square app

  1. Open your Square app.

  2. Tap Balance > All Activity.

All Activity

The All Activity section allows you to view all activity related to your Square balance. This includes Square Card spend, Transfers to your external bank account, & funds added from your card processing sales with Square.

Activity that increases your Square Balance is green, and activity that decreases your Square balance is black. The bottom grey number next to each item is your account’s running balance.

Square Card spend

At the top of this section you will be able to view pending Square Card transactions.

Below this section you can view completed Square Card transactions. Note: Square Card transactions at some types of merchants may change in amount when they move from pending to completed.

If you’d like to export your Card Spend as a .CSV file, select the dates you’d like to export and click Export. You will be able to view date, description, amount and whether it’s a personal or business transaction.

Transfers

Instant or next-business-day transfers are sent to your linked bank account. Inbound Add Money transfers are added to your Square Balance and require a linked debit card.

Square processing sales

Sales you process with Square will appear as credits to your balance.

Note: Square processing sales may take up to 15 minutes to appear in your Square Balance. In addition, consecutive sales will be combined into one incrementing line item until broken up by another type of activity (such as card spend or transfer). To view the full detail of sales made navigate to the Transactions section of your Square app or your online Square Dashboard.

Withdraw Funds from an ATM

If you’re using your Square Card to withdraw cash, the maximum amount which can be withdrawn at an ATM is $500 per transaction, $1,000 per day, $1,000 per week, $2,000 per month.

When withdrawing funds from an ATM, the ATM will probably state your balance is $0.00. This is incorrect. You can check your available funds from the balance section of your Square app.

Please note: Square does not charge you any ATM fees, but ATM providers may charge you a fee when you make withdrawals.

Manual transfers

By default, your funds will be transferred to your bank account every night, from Sunday to Thursday.

Instead of automatic transfers, you can enable manual transfers to choose when to transfer your money. Your funds will be available in your Square balance, and you can decide when to transfer them to your linked bank account. Your funds will then arrive in your bank account the next business day—at no extra cost.

Keep in mind any transfer requests received after 8.30pm PST will be sent to your bank the following business day.

You are able to pause automatic nightly transfers and change to manual transfers, directly from your online Square Dashboard, or from the Square app.

  1. Navigate to Settings in your online Square Dashboard or Square Point of Sale app.

  2. Select Balance.

  3. Under Transfer Schedule > select Manual.

Link Your Square Card to Your Bank Account

Square does not require you to link a bank account to order a Square Card. Keep in mind: you will need to link a bank account to use instant transfer to cash out funds in your balance.

If you don’t have a linked bank account when processing a refund or a chargeback, your available balance will be used to cover the refund, and will become negative if the refund amount exceeds the balance.

If you already have a linked bank account, in the event of a refund and chargeback your existing balance will be used first, and any shortfall is debited from your linked bank account.

Please note: If you’ve accepted a Capital offer, you will need to have a linked bank account.

Add Funds to Your Square Balance

Link a debit card to instantly add funds to your Square balance — so you’re always ready for purchases on your Square Card, regardless of your daily sales.

You will still be able to transfer your funds from your balance to your linked bank account at any time, either next business day (free) or with instant transfers (1.5% fee per transfer).

Track Your Expenses by Type

Square Card helps you to keep business and personal funds separate. However, we understand that sometimes you may use Square Card for personal expenses. To make it easier for you to keep track of your spending, Square Card allows you to categorize your personal and business transactions. You can change the label on your card transactions from business to personal directly from your Square app or online Square Dashboard, helping you stay organized and save time.

By default, your card transactions will be categorized as Business. To change transactions from business to personal:

  1. Tap or click on Balance from the menu in your Square app or online Square Dashboard.

  2. Navigate to Card Spend > select a transaction.

  3. Under Expense Type click or tap on Personal.

You will be able to export a CSV file for your expenses by selecting Export > choosing whether you’ll export Personal or Business expenses.
