When am I paid for gift card sales?
You’ll receive the funds from the sale of a gift card when it is loaded and sold, according to your transfer schedule. You won’t receive a transfer for purchases made with a gift card, as it’s deducting pre-paid credit that was paid when the gift card was purchased.
What are Square’s fees when my customer buys a gift card?
Square’s normal processing fees apply for gift cards purchased with credit or debit cards.
Are Square’s fees applied to a sale when my customer pays with a gift card?
No. Much like a cash or other tender payment, no additional fees will be applied to transactions completed with a gift card issued from Square – only the payment total will be deducted from the gift card balance.
Can my gift cards be used at all of my business locations with Square?
Yes. If you use multiple locations with Square, your gift cards can be issued and redeemed at any location.
If you use eGift Cards, customers can order them online from your eGift Card order site by sharing your custom URL with them, or they can order gift cards through the Give and Get Local Directory along with other local businesses in your area that also offer eGift Cards.
Note: Only businesses offering Square eGift Cards will appear in the search in this directory. Businesses that only offer physical gift cards in store will not be reflected.
If your business sells eGift Cards through Square and you have been processing payments with us, you should have the option to be included in the Give and Get Local Directory by visiting the eGift Cards section of your online Square Dashboard and toggling on Show a link to my eGift Cards in public directories. Once you toggle this on, your business should appear in the Give and Get Local Directory instantly.
If you wish to opt your business out of the Give and Get Local Directory, please visit the eGift Cards section of your online Square Dashboard and toggle off Show a link to my eGift Cards in public directories. Once you toggle this off, mention of your business will be removed from all directories, including those of our partners, but you will still be able to promote your business and sell eGift Cards online through your personal eGift Card site using your custom URL.
How do I check the balance of a gift card?
Visit your Square app and then follow these steps to check the balance.
Can my gift cards be recycled or reused?
Because your gift cards can’t be registered by customers, they can be reused once the balance reaches zero. You can add additional money or manually clear a gift card balance anytime.
Is a gift card’s balance cleared if refunded?
No. When refunding a gift card payment, be sure to also clear the balance of the physical gift card from the app. If the gift card is not present during the refund, you can locate the gift card’s transaction history from your online Square Dashboard to clear its balance.
Clearing the balance will deactivate and void the gift card. You’re then able to re-use the card for a future customer, or recycle it if you’d no longer like to keep it.
Can I sell and load gift cards on my Online Store?
Not at this time.
Can my customers use their gift cards to pay Invoices?
You are able to use your customer’s gift card to pay for their invoice if you have your customer’s gift card on file and the balance covers the invoice total.
Can customers use Invoices to make gift card purchases?
No, gift cards are not an item available to be applied to an invoice.
Can customers use my gift cards to pay for online orders?
Yes, you can accept gift cards for orders placed through your Square Online Store or with select Square Partners. Your customers will have the option to enter the gift card number during checkout.
Note: Gift Cards can only be redeemed from Square Online Store. There currently isn’t a way to redeem a gift card from 3rd-Party eCommerce integrations.
Note: Gift cards can be used with electronic and shipped orders only. They can’t be redeemed for pickup orders at the moment.
Can I issue promotional gift cards?
No, there isn’t a promotional feature for issuing gift cards, but you can apply a discount to a gift card sale.
I’m currently using a third-party gift card service. Can I migrate to Square gift cards?
Yes, and our team can help with this process. Contact us to learn more.
Can I sell a discounted gift card?
Yes – when a customer purchases a gift card, you can apply a discount to the sale. For example, if your customer purchases a $20 gift card and you’d like to discount the total sale by $5, apply a $5 discount. Your customer will receive a $20 gift card and will have paid $15.
Do gift cards expire?
Nope, gift cards from Square don’t expire.
Are customer rewards available with gift cards?
If you’re using a Loyalty program with Square, customers can earn stars when they pay with your gift cards. To earn stars for eligible transactions, customers need to use the same phone number entered when enrolling to your loyalty program..
Can my customers register their gift cards in case they’re lost or stolen?
No, this feature isn’t available currently.
Can I accept gift cards in Offline Mode?
Not at this time.
