Disable Signatures for Payments

Card Providers don’t require signatures for Dip, Tap and Swipe payments in the US and Canada. To help speed up your checkout experience, the Square app allows you to disable customer signatures for all card payments. Starting in April 2021, Square will automatically disable signature collection for Sellers who are still collecting signatures on devices.

Additionally, signatures are not essential to win chargebacks, and not collecting signatures will not affect your processing rates. Disabling signatures will make your checkout experience even faster and safer — and just as secure for you and your customers. To enable or disable your signature settings:

  1. Tap the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner of the Square app or the down arrow at the top of the Square Register.

  2. Tap Settings > Checkout > Signature & Receipt.

  3. Toggle Collect Signature off or on.

  1. Tap the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner to navigate to the menu.

  2. Tap Settings > Checkout > Signature & Receipt.

  3. Toggle Collect signatures off or on.

Major credit card companies no longer require signatures, however should you choose to turn on Collect signatures, select to have customers Sign on device or Sign on Printed Receipt.

Square Register

  1. Tap the down arrow at the top of your screen.

  2. Tap Settings > Checkout > Signature.

  3. Toggle Collect signatures

Square for Retail

  1. Head to the Points of Sale settings on your online Square Dashboard.

  2. Select your device (you’ll need to update for each point of sale, or enable shared device settings).

  3. Under Signature and Receipt, toggle Collect signatures

  4. Select to collect signatures from Device or Printed receipt.

  5. Click Save.

Square Appointments

  1. Tap the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner to navigate to the menu.

  2. Tap Settings > Checkout > Signature.

  3. Toggle Collect signatures

Square for Restaurants

  1. Visit Point of Sale > Devices in your online Square Dashboard.

  2. Select your device.

  3. Under Signature and Receipt, toggle Collect Signatures.

  4. Click Save.
