How Much Data Does Square Use?
Although a basic data plan should be enough to use Square on your mobile device, below is an example of Square’s data usage per transaction.

If you’re using a device primarily for accepting payments with Square, it isn’t necessary to sign up for more than the basic data plan your carrier offers. Please keep in mind that any data usage outside of the Square app (ie. web browsing, email, apps) may require you to sign up for a larger data plan.
SMS Policy for Square
If your phone number is linked to your account as a secure contact number or for two-step verification, Square can send you text messages when there's unusual activity in your account, help you access and recover your account, and for Square alerts.
Two-Step Verification
If your phone number is linked to your account as a secure contact number or for two-step verification, Square will only send you SMS messages when there’s unusual activity in your account, regarding 2 Factor Authentication logins or as a result of customer service inquiry to help you access and recover your account.
Sales & Account Management Communication
Square will only send you SMS messages related to sales inquiries and account management communications. These messages provide personalized updates about your account, follow-ups on service inquiries, and proactive communications from our sales and account management teams. Message frequency may vary depending on your interactions with us and is designed to keep you informed and supported in maintaining your business relationship with Square.
You may opt out of receiving these messages at any time by replying “STOP” to any message. For assistance, reply “HELP” or contact Square Support. Message and data rates may apply. Please check with your cellular provider regarding your plan’s SMS and data rates. Consent to receive SMS messages is not required as a condition of purchasing any goods or services.

Opt out of SMS messages
You can reply to the messages with HELP for help or STOP to opt-out.

SMS Policy for Cash App
If you link your phone number to Cash App, you’ll receive a text message receipt after each successful transaction.

Opt out of SMS messages
Reply “STOP” to any SMS message you receive from Cash App. You will receive no further messages from Cash App moving forward.
