Connect Square Online to Facebook and Instagram

Ready to set up your website with Square? Get started >

Square offers you tools to sell your items on social networks like Facebook and Instagram through Square Online. If you have Facebook and/or Instagram pages for your business, you can connect your Facebook account to create ad campaigns, sync your item library to Facebook, and allow visitors to shop from your Facebook and Instagram pages.

You’ll need to complete the one-time setup process outlined below before you can create ads, or use Facebook Shops across the Facebook and Instagram channels:

  1. Connect your Facebook account.

  2. Select Facebook features that are relevant to your business

  3. Select your Facebook Business Manager Account

  4. Select your Ad Account

  5. Select a Facebook Pixel.

  6. Confirm settings.

Note: In order to sell your items on these platforms, you'll need to review and follow Facebook’s commerce policies and guidelines.

Integrate Facebook Shops with Your Site


Complete the one-time setup process below to create ads and use Facebook Shops across the Facebook and Instagram channels.

Connect your Facebook account

To connect your Facebook account to Square Online:

  1. In your Square Online Overview page, go to Sales Channels > Facebook Shops.
  2. Select Connect Facebook account.

You’ll be prompted to grant permissions for Square Online. Select the Choose what you allow link if you’d like to review the details and toggle specific permissions off. For example, if you are an admin for more than one Facebook page, you can exclude any pages that shouldn’t be connected with your site. When finished, select OK to continue.

Note: If you don’t see the prompt to grant permission immediately after logging in, you may need to close the Facebook window and select the Connect Facebook account button again.

Choose a Facebook page to connect to

Once connected to Facebook, select Next on the welcome page to continue, noting that by doing so, you’re indicating that you agree to the ‘Facebook Terms and Conditions’.

Choose the Facebook page you want to connect to (or create a new one), and select Next to continue.

Install the Facebook Pixel

In the next step, the Facebook Pixel will be automatically installed. Select Next to move on.

Import your items

Finally, your item library will be automatically synced to Facebook and/or Instagram. Select the Finish button, noting that by doing so, you’re indicating that you agree to the ‘Facebook Merchant Terms and Policies’.

Domain Verification

Part of this process involves verifying your domain. Proceed below based on the kind of domain you're using for your Square Online site.

Custom domains

If you have a custom domain connected to your Square Online site, you can use DNS verification to verify your domain for Facebook Shops. This is typically done by adding a TXT record to your custom domain’s DNS. Learn how to manage records for Square Online domains for more information on how to add a record to your domain’s DNS.

Free subdomains

If you have a free Square subdomain for your Square Online site and need to verify it with a meta tag to set up Facebook Shops, please follow the directions below:

  1. In your Square Online Overview page, go to Settings > Tracking Tools.
  2. Select Add new code.
  3. In the popup window, enter in the code’s name and the code itself into the corresponding fields.
  4. Place the Facebook meta tag in the header by selecting the < head > option.
  5. Select Save when finished.
  6. Publish your site from the Square Online site editor to add the code to your website and complete the verification.

Note: Using the meta tag method described above is the only way to verify a free Square subdomain.

Manage Facebook Shops in Square Online

With the setup process completed, you can use the buttons found in your Square Online Overview page > Sales Channels > Facebook Shops to manage your shop and quickly create and manage ads.

Troubleshoot Your Facebook Pixel

If you need assistance with Facebook Pixel for Facebook and Instagram shopping through Square Online, contact Facebook’s support team or visit Facebook’s Business Centre for more information on troubleshooting.

Disconnect Your Facebook Account

To disconnect your Facebook account from Square Online, please follow the directions below:

  1. In your Square Online Overview page, go to Sales Channels > Facebook Shops.

  2. Select Disconnect account.
