  • About email marketing campaigns

With Square Marketing, you can easily create email marketing campaigns by designing and targeting customised email and social media promotions. Use the intuitive tools and access the searchable image gallery to optimise your campaign reach and engagement — making it simple to connect with your subscribed customers.

    Before you begin

    • You can create email marketing campaigns in Square Dashboard.

    • Ensure your customer has explicitly subscribed to receive email marketing from your business. Learn how to Collect customer information.

    • To send a campaign about a loyalty promotion, make sure you’re subscribed to Square Loyalty and have a program set up. Learn how to create a loyalty program.

    • If your business has multiple locations, you have the option to select one specific location if it isn’t relevant for all locations. This will determine which address shows up at the bottom of emails and limit where coupons can be redeemed.

    • You can choose to target your subscribed customers with different smart groups. Smart groups are recommended customer groups, such as top spenders, frequent visitors, active customers and loyal subscribers.

Reminder emails can't be disabled once the campaign has been sent.

    Create an email marketing campaign

You can choose a one-time blast campaign or set up an ongoing automated campaign. To do so:

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Customers > Marketing > Campaigns.

    2. Click Create campaign and choose Email.

    3. Click Next, and choose your campaign location and objective. Campaign objectives include rewarding customers, offering coupons, sending quick updates, promoting your online store and more.

    4. Click Design, and either select a pre-existing template or use the default template to customise your campaign. Choose your default campaign colour, layout, font and button size, email header and more. You can also add images, new text fields, and items from your library, as well as re-order these blocks of content so the email matches exactly what you’re looking for.

    5. Click Select audience, and either choose All customers or select a Custom set of customers. If you chose a smart group when selecting your campaign objective, you can adjust the group recipients by clicking Modify.

    6. Click Review Campaign to review campaign details and make any additional adjustments.

    7. Click Schedule or Send now.

    Enable email reminders

When creating a one-time blast campaign with Square Marketing, the option to send a reminder email to recipients who haven’t opened your message is disabled by default. If you want to send reminder emails, this setting can be switched on from the Review & Send step of the campaign creation process.

Once you've sent an email marketing campaign with reminders enabled, reminder emails are sent five days after the original delivery date. Campaigns with coupons or discounts are sent again to those who haven’t opened your message seven days before the coupon is set to expire. By default, a coupon expires two months after the campaign is sent, unless you’ve set it to expire on a different date.

    Cancel a marketing campaign

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Customers > Marketing > Campaigns.

    2. Select the active campaign you’d like to cancel and click Cancel.

    3. If applicable, select whether you’d like to still honour any unredeemed coupons, or cancel and invalidate them.

    4. Click Cancel campaign.
