Filter Orders by Dining Options with Square KDS
Before you begin
Dining Option filtering allows kitchen staff to route tickets or items to specific KDS screens based on dining options entered from POS orders (i.e. Dine-In, Takeaway, etc.).
Here are some examples of how routing by dining option can be used:
Filter to only 'Pickup' & 'Takeaway' orders at a station focused on packaging takeaway orders.
Filter to only 'Pickup' & 'Delivery' orders at a station that manages order retrievals by delivery couriers.
Filter to only ‘Dine-In’ orders at a station that focuses on in-house meals only.
Note: Square KDS dining options only apply to orders originating from a point of sale and do not apply to online orders (even if they are the same name (ie. Pickup, Delivery). Learn more about managing online orders with Square.
Enable Dining Options
From your Square Dashboard, click Items > Settings > Dining options.
Select Settings.
Select Set Up Dining Options.
Toggle the relevant dining options on/off and drag and rearrange the order that will appear on your point of sale.
New dining options are enabled on all locations by default. If you delete a dining option, it will be deleted from every location.
Filter Dining Options on your kitchen display
You can filter orders to only show specific Dining Options on your Square KDS:
On the Square KDS app settings, tap Routing > Source & Fulfilment.
Scroll down to Dining Options.
Pick which dining option you want to turn on from the list.
If a dining option isn’t showing up, check your Square Dashboard to make sure the dining option is enabled for that location.
