Set Up Donation Goals with Square Checkout Links

Square Payment Links are a great opportunity for your business to reach out to your most loyal customers, donors, and patrons for support. Maximise your donations this year with reminding nudges like a goal or a deadline.

When you create a donation checkout link for your business, you can set up the following settings from your online Square Dashboard:

  • A donation goal.

  • A deadline or timeframe for that goal to drive urgency (for example, 18-days to meet our match).

Pricing

There is no monthly fee for using Square Online Checkout links to receive donation payments. You’ll only pay of 2.2% per transaction for all card payments, including digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Create Donation Links

To get started:

  1. Go to Payments > Online Checkout from your online Square Dashboard.

  2. Click Create a link.

  3. Next to "Purpose of link," select Accept a donation.

  4. Enter a name, description or image for your link—this will be displayed to the customer. The optional description for each checkout link has a 400-character limit.

  5. Add an optional image by clicking Add Image > Upload an image then select either an image from your files or from your existing item library. Note: If adding a new image for an item in your library that already has one, the new image will automatically replace the previous image. You can also edit your image by adjusting the zoom. Click Save.

  6. If you want a recurring donation, click Advanced settings, then toggle Accept recurring donations on and select the billing frequency. Note: Customers will be able to choose from a one-time payment or subscription.

  7. Select Set Donation Goal to showcase to your donors how much you would like to fundraise. You can also set an End Date for this goal.

  8. Set up an optional website redirect by checking the Send buyers to your site after purchase box.

  9. Click + to add up to two custom fields to collect more information from your customers.

  10. Click Create Link.

  11. Once the link is created, click Share to share the link anywhere—via SMS, email, or social media channels.

Any donations made towards your donation goal will automatically be made visible to your donors on your checkout link. Once your donors donate to your organisation, they’ll be able to share their links via Facebook or X (formerly Twitter), so you can maximise your donations this season.
