About Neighborhoods
Participation and eligibility
Eligible Square seller locations can be included in Neighborhoods on Cash App. Included locations can appear in Cash App and accept Local Cash on supported Square point-of-sale hardware.
If your location is included, customers can follow your business, earn Local Cash, and redeem Local Cash at checkout. You do not need to sign up or change your settings before participation starts.
Neighborhoods is available to eligible, active Square sellers in the US that use supported Square point-of-sale hardware and meet other business criteria. Sellers using Square Loyalty may not be included at this time.
If you want to stop checkout prompts or leave Neighborhoods, you can manage prompts from your point of sale or Square Dashboard. To leave Neighborhoods completely, contact support or email neighborhoods-support@squareup.com with your request.
Neighborhoods on Cash App connects your business with customers nearby. They can find you, follow you, and earn rewards when they order — driving repeat visits and new customers to your business.
Here's what's included:
1% processing fee on orders placed directly through Cash App (standard processing rates apply elsewhere)
Free marketing tools to reach Cash App customers and reachable email audience directly from Square Dashboard
Local Cash rewards: Customers earn 10% of their order subtotal back in Local Cash, valid at any participating Neighborhoods business, initially funded by Square for participating businesses as part of your Neighborhoods offer. Reward rates and funding terms may vary and are subject to change.
Follower insights to track customer engagement
Your deposits, payouts, and existing Square features work exactly the same as before.
How it works
Your business is now part of the Neighborhoods network. Here's what that means in practice:
In store:
Your buyer-facing display shows a refreshed look with your brand logo
Customers scan a QR code after checkout to follow your business on Cash App and earn Local Cash
When they have Local Cash available, they can redeem Local Cash at checkout
What to tell your staff: "Scan to follow us on Cash App, and you'll earn 10% back in Local Cash to use next time."
When lines are busy (Square Register X2 only):
You can temporarily pause rewards prompts at checkout — so new customers aren't prompted to follow your business during a rush.
Customers who are already part of Neighborhoods can still earn and redeem Local Cash as normal.- This doesn't affect your Neighborhoods participation — just the upsell prompts.
To turn it on: POS settings > Checkout > Neighborhoods > Rewards upsell — select how long you'd like to pause for.
Online (ordering profile):
Your ordering profile is accessible to your followers on Cash App, who can browse your menu if available, place orders, and earn rewards
Orders placed through Cash App qualify for the 1% processing rate
Who's eligible
Neighborhoods on Cash App is currently available for select food & beverage sellers.
What you need to do

Visit your Channels > Neighborhoods to manage your Neighborhoods settings, view insights, and explore other ways to grow your business with Neighborhoods.

Manage your participation
You're in control. You can pause your participation anytime:
Sign in to Square Dashboard
Go to Channels > Neighborhoods
Select Pause participation
Your account works normally while paused — you just won't appear in Cash App or accept Local Cash. You can resume anytime from the same page.
