About cart display settings
When you add the same item to a cart multiple times, Square Point of Sale groups identical items into a single line with a quantity count. This is called cart coalescing. For example, adding three of the same latte shows as one line with a quantity of 3.
With the Consolidate identical items setting, you can control this behavior per mode. Turn it off to show each item as a separate line in the cart. This is helpful for quick service and bar workflows where team members track individual orders or need to modify items independently.
The Show dine-in fulfillment in cart setting controls whether the dine-in or in-store fulfillment row is always visible in the cart. When enabled, the order-level fulfillment method displays directly in the cart so team members can confirm or change it without opening additional menus. This is useful in environments where multiple fulfillment types are active and you want to avoid confusion between order-level and item-level dining options.
Before you begin
You need the Square Point of Sale app on iOS or Android, updated to the latest version.
This setting is available for full service, quick service, bar, standard, and services modes. It is not available for retail modes.
The Consolidate identical items toggle is enabled by default for all modes.
The Show dine-in fulfillment in cart toggle is available for full service, quick service, bar, and drive-thru modes. It is OFF by default.
Toggle the Consolidate identical items setting
Open the Square Point of Sale app and tap ≡ More.
Tap Settings > Checkout Settings > Cart.
Locate the Consolidate identical items toggle.
Turn the toggle on to group identical items into a single line with a quantity count.
Turn the toggle off to display each item as a separate line in the cart.
Your changes save automatically.
Toggle the Show dine-in fulfillment in cart setting
Open the Square Point of Sale app and tap ≡ More.
Tap Settings > Checkout Settings > Cart.
Locate the Show dine-in fulfillment in cart toggle.
Turn the toggle on to always display the dine-in or in-store fulfillment row in the cart.
Turn the toggle off to hide the fulfillment row from the cart view.
Your changes save automatically.
