  • About Form 1099-DA

Starting with the 2025 tax year, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires reporting of digital asset transactions on Form 1099-DA. This new form replaces Form 1099-B for reporting bitcoin and other digital asset transactions.

    Before you begin

    • If you have sold bitcoin during the calendar year, your Form 1099-DA will be available to download on your Square Dashboard by February 15 of the following year of your bitcoin sale. If February 15 falls on a weekend or holiday, your form will be available by the following business day.

    • You can find additional instructions for filing with your Forms 1099-DA on the IRS website. Per IRS instructions, while you don’t need to attach copies of Form(s) 1099-DA you receive when you file your taxes, you do need to enter the information from the forms on your return. Consult your tax advisor for guidance.

Square does not provide tax advice. For tax advice, please consult your personal tax advisor or the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 (1-800-829-4059 TTY/TDD) or visit their website at FAQS | Internal Revenue Service.
