[Beta] Set up automatic order numbering

  • About automatic order numbering

    Automatic order numbering expands on the current ticket numbering feature, adding the following options:

    • You can apply automatic order ticket numbering to open orders (checks/tickets) as well as quick sales. 

    • You can set a custom maximum value for automatic numbering below or above the current limit of 99.

    Before you begin

    Ensure your point of sale is running app version 6.82 or newer. You can find your app version at the bottom of the ≡ More screen.

    Set up automatic order numbering

    If you’d like to adjust your maximum from the default of 99:

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Order tickets.

    2. Update the maximum for each location. The maximum will be set at the location level with order numbering shared across any POS and/or Square kiosk device that has Auto assign ticket numbers enabled.

    Enable Auto-assign ticket numbers

    You can enable Auto-assign ticket numbers for your POS devices on Square Dashboard (web) or directly on your POS device. To do so:

    From Square Dashboard

    1. Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Device management > Modes.

    2. Click on mode in question, under Settings, select Manage.

    3. Under Settings, select Checkout > Order tickets.

    4. Update settings and click Save.

    From your POS device

    1. Tap ≡ More > Settings > Checkout > Order tickets.

    2. Select Auto assign ticket numbers.

    Turning on Auto-assign ticket numbers will update the settings for any POS devices that share the same mode.
