Set up automatic order numbering
About automatic order numbering
Automatic order numbering expands on the current ticket numbering feature, adding the following options:
You can apply automatic order ticket numbering to open orders (checks/tickets) as well as quick sales.
You can set a custom maximum value for automatic numbering from 1 to 9,999.
Before you begin
Ensure your point of sale is running the most recent version of the Square app. You can find your app version at the bottom of the ≡ More screen.
Turning on Auto-assign ticket numbers will update the settings for any POS devices that share the same mode.
The default order number limit is 99 unless you update the automatic order numbering settings.
Set up automatic order numbering
To set up automatic order numbering and adjust your maximum order number:
Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Account & Settings > Order tickets.
Update the maximum for each location. The maximum is set at the location level, and order numbering is shared across any POS or Square Kiosk device with Auto assign ticket numbers enabled.
Enable ticket number assignment
You can enable ticket number assignment for your POS devices on Square Dashboard (web) or directly on your POS.
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Settings > Device management > Modes.
