Receive Square Bill Pay Payments as a Vendor

As a vendor or supplier, you can choose to receive payment from a Square merchant in one of two ways; by ACH bank transfer or by a digital check. A digital check is a check in PDF format that Square emails to you on behalf of the merchant. You can then download, print, and make a mobile check deposit.

Receiving payment by ACH bank transfer

Square will send payment to you—the vendor or supplier—via ACH bank transfer if your bank account details are on file. Your customer, the Square merchant, may request that information in advance via Square. You will be directed to a secure webpage to submit bank account details. This information will be stored securely with Square and not shared with the merchant. After payment is initiated by the Square merchant, funds will arrive in your bank account within 1-2 business days.

No additional steps are required to receive funds by ACH bank transfer—you will receive an email from Square with payment information to keep you updated on when the payment was scheduled and when it was processed.

Link your bank account with Plaid

If you receive a Square Bill Pay payment, but don't know or have access to your bank's routing and account numbers, you can also try linking your bank account with Plaid to accept the payment. When you receive an email from a Square merchant requesting to send a payment via Square Bill Pay:

  1. Click Accept payment

  2. When choosing how you want to receive the payment, click Securely login to your bank account, then click Get started

  3. From the Plaid screen, continue linking your bank account via Plaid to accept the payment.

Note: After linking your bank account with Plaid, funds will arrive within 1-2 business days.

Receiving payment by digital check

You can still receive payment if you don’t want to provide your bank account details. In this case, on the scheduled payment date (i.e., when Square will charge the merchant’s payment source), you will receive an email to either provide bank account details or accept a digital check.

If you choose to accept a digital check, you will have 90 days to deposit it from the date you first downloaded the check. After 90 days, the check will be voided. If you choose to accept the payment via digital check, you can follow the steps below to deposit the check:

  1. Print the check on plain white paper.

  2. Verify texts and bank numbers are legible.

  3. Cut on the dotted lines, sign the back, and make a mobile check deposit using a banking app.

Receiving payment by paper check

You may also receive payment via paper check should you prefer. Checks will be delivered in 4-6 business days via USPS First Class Mail. You will need to confirm your address with the Square merchant, especially if it is not already on file.

Note: A paper check shall remain valid for 90 days from the date it is issued.
