Get Started with Square Photo Studio

Square Photo Studio gives you professional product photography that’s affordably priced and designed to help boost your sales without the need to spend thousands hiring a professional. All you have to do is ship us your products, and we’ll take care of the photography, retouching, and color correction. Once they're ready, download and manage your images directly from your Square account to use as you see fit.

This article describes Square Photo Studio as a service provided by Square. You can also learn more about getting started with the Square Photo Studio app for more information about creating professional-looking item images directly from your mobile device.

Submit an Order

To submit a Square Photo Studio order:

  1. From our Square Photo Studio landing page, select Get started.

  2. Choose your product types and set the number of photos you’d like.

  3. Add detailed instructions for the photographer (e.g. what angles to shoot from). Although these are optional, they’ll help make sure you get the results you’re looking for.

  4. Enter your card information and an optional return shipping address (if you want the products returned to you), and submit your order.

Note: By sending us your products, you agree to the Square Photo Studio Terms.

Pricing 

With Photo Studio, you can get three photos of your product from different angles that are retouched and optimized for online selling for just $19.95 per item. Images come as .jpg files on a white background and as .png files on a transparent background.

Ship Your Items

Once you've completed an order for Photo Studio, you'll receive a confirmation email from Square that includes the shipping address for your specific Photo Studio order. Square has multiple Photo Studio locations, so be sure to send the products to the address listed in your confirmation email. Once Square receives your products, it can take up to 14 days to deliver your Photo Studio images.

How to pack your items

When you’re ready to ship your items, it’s important to securely package them so that they arrive safely. A sturdy box with extra packaging such as biodegradable bubble wrap, cardboard separators, or filling paper can help avoid any potential damage to products during transit.

Note: Square is not responsible for lost or damaged items in transit, and cannot refund you for the cost of your products or shipping.

Packing fragile and unique items

If you’re sending us fragile or unique items that require special packaging, we highly recommend purchasing insurance and sending us pre-paid shipping labels to make sure your products are protected in transit. If you’re shipping us wine, please send us pre-paid shipping labels with the necessary insurance and shipping requirements.

Return shipping

After we finish with your items, we’ll send you your product photos, and wait up to 7 days for any feedback and additional requests. After those 7 days, we’ll either ship your products back to you or donate them, depending on what option you choose during checkout. Should you opt to have your items returned to you, Photo Studio will charge a $15 flat rate for return shipping. The Photo Studio team will do its very best to ensure your items are safe and secure.

International shipping

We’re not offering our Photo Studio service outside of the US at this time.

Manage Your Photo Studio Orders

You can view and manage your Photo Studio orders from your online Square Dashboard.

View or place new orders

To view a Photo Studio order in Square Online:

  1. From your Square Online Overview page, go to Photo Studio.
  2. Enter an order number in the search field or browse the list of orders.
  3. Select an order to view the details.

To view a Photo Studio order in Square Item Library:

  1. From your Square Item Library, go to Images > Photo Studio.
  2. Enter an order number in the search field or browse the list of orders.
  3. Select an order to view the details.

Each order will show the order date, items ordered, date updated, and current status.

To place a new order, select Place new order to open the purchase page in a new window.

Update order notes

You can add or edit Photo Studio order notes up until we receive your product in our studio.

To update your order notes in Square Online:

  1. From your Square Online Overview page, go to Photo Studio.
  2. Select the order you’d like to update. 
  3. Select the button next to your order notes to update or add more notes.

To update your order notes in Square Item Library:

  1. From your Square Item Library, go to Images > Photo Studio.
  2. Select the order you’d like to update. 
  3. Select the button next to your order notes to update or add more notes.

Add more photos to your order

We’re unable to add more photos to an existing order. However, if you place a new order and include the original Order ID in your order notes, we can take additional photos of your products. Adding the original Order ID to a new order will allow our team to match the new information with your products that have already been shipped to our studio.

Check the status of an order

To check the status of a Photo Studio order in Square Online:

  1. From your Square Online Overview page, go to Photo Studio.
  2. Select the order you’d like to check the status of.

To check the status of a Photo Studio order in Square Item Library:

  1. From your Square Item Library, go to Images > Photo Studio.
  2. Select the order you’d like to check the status of.

Order statuses include the following:

  • Order received: We’ve received payment for your order and are waiting for products to arrive at our studio. 
  • In progress: We’ve received your items in our studio and are working on capturing your product photos. 
  • Complete: We’ve delivered new product photos to you that are ready to download.

Sell Items Directly from Your New Photos

You can create and sell items with your pictures directly from your Square Photo Studio order. Create an online checkout link for your item, or add it to your Square item catalog to sell online or in-person.

Create checkout links

To create a checkout link for an item photographed by our Photo Studio:

  1. From your Square Online Overview page, go to Photo Studio.
  2. Under the item you want to sell, select Sell this item.
  3. Enter an item title and price, and choose the photo you want to feature.
  4. Select Create link.
  5. Select Copy link to share and sell your item anywhere online.

After creating a link, you can edit the item title, price, or image at any time. You can also copy the checkout link or embed code to add the checkout link to an external website. To do so, go to either the Square Online Overview page or the Square Online Checkout page in your Dashboard.

Add images to items

To add your Photo Studio image to an item only:

  1. From your Square Item Library, go to Images > Photo Studio and select an order.
  2. Select a photo to assign to an item.
  3. Select Assign items from the edit image view.
  4. Choose existing items from your Item Library or create a new one.

You can also access your Photo Studio images from Images > Image library.
