B Notice FAQ
Your 2022 Form 1099-K will list ‘Block, Inc. f/k/a Square, Inc.’ as the FILER. The name ‘Block, Inc.’ will also appear under the PSE’s name and telephone number. |
When your taxpayer information (TIN/name combination) does not match the IRS records, Square is required to issue a B Notice to your account. You’ll receive a notification letter and email from our Tax team with the required due date to update your information. If you do not submit the required documentation by the due date, your Square account will be deactivated.
Your TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) is the number used to file taxes with the IRS. Your TIN could be either an Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Social Security Number (SSN).
You can read more about TINs on the IRS website.
The process for submitting documentation for a B Notice will vary depending on your account. For instruction on what to do next, please refer to the letter or email you received from the Square Tax team.
